Some of you may remember last year when I posted about a custom 25-06 built on a Mauser 98 action that I picked up at a local gun show, and put into a walnut Boyd's stock that I had laying around. The rifle was built by an unknown gunsmith using a 26" barrel of unknown origin (although it looks in fine shape), and I can't really find any proof marks other than what is shown in the following picture. I was curious if anyone recognizes these proof marks, and has an opinion on whether they are original or would have been added later on (perhaps by the gunsmith who built the rifle). Thanks!

Update: after making my post, I consulted my copy of "Mauser Bolt Rifles" by Ludwig Olson; and found this in his listing of Mauser receiver ring proof marks. It looks like this same proof mark is protruding out from under my scope base, and there were no other proof marks like this in the list. So, I suppose this means my receiver was probably from a Brazilian 1908 in 7x57(?).

The DWM Brazilian actions are very good IMO… i built a 30-06 on a Brazilian DWM a few years back that a buddy of mine used to take a nice whitetail doe this past year.. it’s one of the nicer mausers I’ve built..

The crest means that somewhere the action has been shaved a bit.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
Ross
