My wife and I are considering doing a little touring in Croatia in 2026… I wouldn’t mind tacking on a 3-4 day hunt while we are there.. any neighboring country would be considered for hunting as well…

Anyone have any recommendations for outfitters in the area?

Depending on the time I can send you some options. Romania is a top hunting destination in Europe: for wilderness areas, traditions and history!

I will drop you PM.

We are pretty open on time.. we were originally considering maybe late April to late May.. but anytime in the fall between September and December is possible as well..

April to late May
Best time for roe buck. So, focus on roe buck hunting.

The strongest roe bucks are in Slavonija, north eastern part of Croatia, close to Serbia border.
But Croatia is not big, from coast to north east part you can be in 4 hours by car, all connected by highways.
I dropped you the message with few outfitters options.

For Hungary, look into FN Hunting. I had a very good hunt in Austria with them. They manage several areas in Hungary.
I haven’t hunted with, but had several good discussions with Passion and Prey Hunting at shows. You can look into also. They had a lot of good options.

When you are wanting to come?

We’re pretty open on dates… initially we were thinking April-May time frame… but anytime between August and December can work pretty easily too (although I’m not sure I’m keen on August weather for a hunt)…

Hunting Seasons in Croatia (2025)

Hunting in Croatia is regulated by the Croatian Hunting Act and managed through the Croatian Hunting Association (Hrvatski Lovacki Savez). Seasons are set annually but generally follow consistent patterns based on species, with variations for males, females, and regions. All hunting requires a valid license, and foreign hunters must obtain a temporary hunting card. Seasons can differ slightly by hunting district, so always confirm with local game wardens or outfitters for 2025 specifics. Below is a summary of key species and their typical seasons, compiled from official guidelines and recent hunting resources.

Big Game Seasons

SpeciesSeason DetailsNotes
Roe Deer (Males)May 1 – September 30Stalking in low vegetation; most popular small big game species.
Roe Deer (Females & Fawns)October 1 – January 31Population control focus.
Red Deer (Stags)August 16 – January 15 (rutting peaks in September–October)Roaring season in forests; trophies often 350–400 CIC points.
Red Deer (Hinds)October 1 – January 15Limited to females for management.
Wild BoarYear-round (driven hunts common November–January)Sows limited July 1 – January 31; abundant in lowlands and forests.
Brown BearMarch 1 – May 15 (spring); September 16 – December 15 (fall)Baited or stalked; winter/early spring also viable in some areas; quotas strictly enforced.
Fallow DeerOctober (rut) – later months (up to January)Stalking or waiting; coastal and island variants available.
Mouflon (Wild Sheep)Year-round in some island/coastal areas; generally September – MarchFair chase in mountains; rams up to 220+ CIC points.
Chamois (Balkan)September – MarchMountain hunts in Velebit or Gorski Kotar; thrilling cliff stalking.
Golden JackalYear-round (peaks in summer/fall)Opportunistic; often combined with other hunts.

Grok is your friend! I couldn't find it on the web, but I asked Grok and here we are.

I verified it against a website I later found.

If you want big roe bucks you need to come in late July or early August or in May.

A september hunt will work well for everything else for the red deer rut.

@mark-hunter gave me some good information prior to our trip to Croatia. We really enjoyed our trip and hope to go back again someday.
I took a Fallow deer and a nice mouflon. For some reason I cannot get the photos to load.

Hunting mouflon in the white cliffs above the Adriatic was truly a special experience. I have not been able to upload a photo but did find one in my media files here on my AH account.

I am also watching this thread with interest. My wife and I are looking at a Croatia/Montenegro trip around the June time frame…

I just finished a great trip Chamois hunting in Slovenia, I know my agent books hunts in Croatia as we were planning to go there first.
