I just received my shipping quote, and I about had a heart attack. Total cost is $5972, with the airfare alone being $4317. The size of my crate is 81" x 45" x 53" for a total of 533 Volume weight. I'm sure the issue with Iran is not helping with the cost of fuel. Ugh! I'm glad I'm out of room to hang stuff, so no more mounts, pictures from now on.

Wow! That seems high. There have been some other recent quotes on here that don't see quite so bad. Do you still have time to get some other quotes?

I am guessing your higher rate might be due to more limited options of flying the things back due to having a buffalo. Even still, that's a rough bill for that.

I received the airway bill, and it is Turkish Airline. I believe it is the only that will transport any Big-5 items.

The savings and the waiting time involved by using airfreight is not really worth it in my opinion. I've heard of some outrageous shipping charges at the port of entry.

Might as well suck it up and press on.

My crate is estimated to ship out from Joburg on 18 Jul, arriving in Atlanta on 22 Jul.

"Please note that your consignment will be booked with Turkish Airline. At present, Turkish Airlines freight rates are higher than those of Delta Airline. Unfortunately, we are unable to utilize Delta Airline for this consignment, as they do not accept consignments containing Big Five trophies and your consignment include buffalo. Currently Turkish Airline & Delta Airline are the only airlines assisting with hunting trophy shipments, with Turkish Airline being the only available option for your consignment"

I was just going to say (similar to Brickburn), it's almost like shipping hunting trophies has become a monopoly, and that's why prices are getting out of hand.

If you think this is high, don't get me started on warehouse storage charges. The warehouse charges are outrageous, two years ago, they charged me $125 per day, for 10 days. Turkish Airlines knows they have us by the balls since they are the only ones who transport Big-5 mounts.

My friend who hunted with me, brought his mounts home and paid about half of what I'm paying for airfreight. Oh, and his crate was as big if not a bit bigger than mine.

This is going to hit the african hunting industry upside down if they don’t stop all the increase including the ranches increasing the trophy fees.

I’ve heard from a number of sources their getting a lot of cancelations and this year has been a lot slower then expected. We all know for some hunters the cost increase will not affect them but for most hunters it definitely will impact.

I might take a break from africa next year and try another country.

Does Croc count as dangerous game ?

Part of SCI’s dangerous 7, but I don’t think that any airlines have restrictions on them like they do on the Big 5 if that’s what you’re asking. I looked into it last year when I was contemplating a croc hunt.
