Tubby’s Canteen
AH legend
Caveat emptor… that’s Latin darlin evidently… the buyer should beware.
I apologize in advance gentleman as this is going to be little more than a rant. As some of you know I recently purchased a Baikal single shot in .308 and did a post about it calling it Ivan the terrible.
While in the process of buying Ivan I ordered 200 rounds of .308 federal from G4C a Canadian online firearms and ammunition supplier. Now in the interest of full disclosure I had the option of purchasing shipping insurance at the time and opted out as in my experience selling guns on gunpost insurance in Canada won’t cover firearms or ammunition anyway and is just a waste of money.
To say that the experience getting the ammunition was a disaster is an understatement. The ammunition was shipped via purolator and required a signature for delivery so on the scheduled date we left fishing hours early in order for me to be home in time to sign for my package inconveniencing not only me but the rest of the fishing crew. Thankfully they are all also hunters and shooters so they understood. I then waited all afternoon only for it to be rescheduled to evening which could be as late as 9pm. 9 pm comes and goes still no package. So I call and spend well over and hour on hold before finally getting some woman with a very limited grasp of the English language on the phone who couldn’t even tell me where my package was. Then continued to blame me for giving them the wrong address despite confirming it was in fact my address. For those that don’t know I own the property I was raised on so. This has literally been my address my entire life. Further they would not allow me to confirm my own address as I was the receiver and not the shipper.
Reached out to G4C and someone there was able to convince purolator that I did in fact live at my own address and that I would have my package Saturday. Was originally supposed to have it on Friday. Saturday spent all day waiting for my package and actually watched the purolator guy slow up on his way by read my house number and then drive by no package.
At this point I’ve got no delivery date and no package and can’t reach out to anyone until business hours Monday so I had to take a day of fishing costing me money. Monday the the package finally arrived before I was able to track it down thankfully I was home and able to sign for them.
when I did receive them they were literally soaked. The shipping packaging was sopping wet with an actual puddle in the box and the federal blue boxes were also soaked. I had to lay out and dry all of the shells individually and the boxes were ruined. I photographed the condition everything arrived in and sent the photos to G4C and whomever is in the shipping office said they would look into it.
Today I finally got an email back after waiting the best part of a month. The long and short of it was G4C blamed purolator who won’t even talk to me as I’m the receiver and asked me if the ammunition was still functional. While I don’t know about any of you gentleman but the only sure fire way I know to check function of ammunition is fire it or pull it apart and reload it both so that seems like a stupid question to me. They then offered me 5% off anything already in my cart with them.. this was my first purchase from them an a disaster so i obviously don’t have anything else waiting to be shipped from them in the que so 5% of nothing is nothing. To be clear they didn’t even offer 5% off my next order they offered 5% of anything in my cart…
So to recap I’ve got 200 loose rounds that have been soaked for an unknown amount of time that I probably wouldn’t trust to carry in the field.
The only winner I see in this one is my step son he gained 200 rounds to shoot at plates this summer to the gun range.
Thankfully I’ve been blessed to be in a position the last few years where a 400 loss like that is not the end of the world and just a minor inconvenience but I’m not so far removed from the years where that kind of an experience would of been a disaster as to not be annoyed..
There it is end of rant for all of you who stuck around to the end thanks for letting me vent and keep your powder dry…
