I'm also curious why the wounding or missed rate is so high on bears. I'm told by the guides that some of the archery bears are lost due to shot placement but interestingly, some archery guys do not take the shot at all. That's not a "lost" bear but it is a lost opportunity. I think that happened 5x times in the last 2 weeks alone. Are bears shot and not reported? Sadly yes but it's a big risk with the game cameras right there. I received this photo after I got home. They pulled the card and found it took a photo of my kill shot.

@Green Chile - good point on the “Game Cameras” and my hunts were 15 years ago and cameras were rarely used by guides and even then there might only be used on one or two stands. Guides in Maine told me they had trouble with Bears destroying (chewing up) the cameras. I’ve also had trouble with Bears messing with my trail cameras - even rando camera set up on trails in the middle of the woods…..they just seem attracted or curious about that “odd shape” on the tree and have chewed up my cameras and twice “opened them up” and plucked out the batteries WITHOUT doing any damage….batteries just lying on the ground
