Here's my 2017 Alberta Whitetail.
I took him in the foothills of the rocky mountains after rattling him in.

Hey Dr Ray,The rifle is a open sighted WW2 era Swiss K-31 shooting 180grain Norma ammo.
I rattled him in using antlers from a previous years buck I had got.
The shot was approximately 200 yrds down a cutline.

7x55 cartridge. I rust you enjoyed the hunt and the deer should give you a lot of nice venison. Yummy!

The 180 grain bummer would have done a great job on the penetration depth I should imagine. Comment - fairly heavy for caliber.

Nice buck, do you have any other photos? Do you always hunt with iron sighted rifles?

Damn nice WT, congrats!

Indeed that 180grain bullet penetrated well so well it punched right through him,I have used this rifle/ammo combo on a couple deer and a bear so far with no complaints about its performance.
It's a 7.5x55 round.very similar to a 308 ballistics.
I do not always use open sighted rifles but enjoy variety and do so once in awhile.

This is a photo I took when I was in the process of dragging him out of the bush to my truck which was a six hour operation and required cutting him in half and making two trips as I was hunting alone that day.
Hence the stick tied to his antlers.
It's much easier dragging that way then being bent over pulling.

I'm still trying to count the number of points on his antlers, not having much luck. To bad you didn't have a snowmobile or some other ATV to pull him out with. If motorized vehicles are not allowed maybe a horse could be used. Six hours dragging a deer out would work up a sweat in most folks.

Nice buck, congrats!

He is a 5x7 although one point on the 7 side is only just 1 inch long.
O believe me I wish I had a quad that day.lol
We are allowed motorized off-road vehicles I just unfortunately do not own one.

Nice deer!!! I love it and to get him rattling in must have been exciting.

Congrats on getting a nice buck

Great looking deer. You really earned him with that kind of a drag. Congrats
