bushpigs with bait or dogs

Looking for info from anyone who has hunted bushpigs either way (with bait or dogs).They are high on my list next trip so want to keep my options opened for best chance.I would like to take a boar if possible.I also want a fun hunt but will do either to take one. Thanks for any info Billc

I do baits !!!! Works great ! We have leopard baits out constantly. The pigs come in on these on a regular base. I also use different corn bait stations as there are many more scavengers come in on the meat. There are people who do dogs as well with great success. You will probably get good feedback from them too ! This is a very underrated trophy ! They can be very aggresive and make a really neat mount !!

Hunting bushpig over bait is every bit as exciting as a baited leopard hunt. They are extremely wary with unbelievable senses and having them come in while you're in the blind is no guarantee that you'll get a chance at shooting one! Best to do over full moon and not use artificial light is my experience as they tend to scatter the second the light comes on.

Hunting them over hounds is equally exhilarating and a different experience altogether. I love doing both.

I hunt them over bait with a red light which seems to work better than normal light.Full moon though is definitely the best,they are very wary and intelligent creatures.One of the best trophys to have.

Thanks all,I find this to be the one animal I feel I most try for next trip.If I get lucky enough I would do a full body mount.Not sure if this can be done or not but could someone hunt bait and have dogs for backup towards the end of the hunt.I am not sure how much notice most be give for dogs to be lined up for a hunt.

They make a really neat full mount !!! Arrange with your Outfitter about dogs . This will probably cost extra. If they do decent baits hounds should not be necessary ! Good Luck ! You will cherish this .... A very special animal to hunt !!!

Hunted them with both dogs and bait. Very exiting hunt! But practice shooting moving target for when u hunting with dogs. Shot 3 a while ago on the run at about 180 to 200 m and had to lead the shot by about 3m infrant with my 270 win. Sorry for my english not my first language

I liked hunting them with a spot light in the pecan orchards in the natal area. I took 3 in one night and decided to call it quits and leave some pigs for the other safari hunters coming that year. Those bushpigs were every and that was some fun hunting. This one has got to be one of the greyest bushpigs I've ever seen.

I want very much to hunt bushpig in daylight, spot and stalk. I realize that they are nocturnal creatures 90% of the time. However, I spoke with numerous PHs and hunters at SCI who have taken bushpigs in Mozambique's delta areas, where they appear to be commonly seen during daylight. I'll find out more on my hunt this summer and post a report.

joester in some of the Coutada blocks I have often seen Bushpig during the day. The sporadic clumps of forest and dense bush surrounded by grassland allows for exciting hunting when flushed by a few of the trackers and camp staff.

Hunting Bushpig successfully is as much an art as hunting Leopard. I have bait out permanently during hunting season. I monitor the different baits by trail cam and select the bait station to sit on. I shoot only boars and secure this by supplying the hunter a rifle fitted with a quality night vision scope. I use night vision binoculars in the hide to be able to tell the hunter which one to shoot. This way one can watch the pigs feeding for a while. For hunters wanting to use their own rifles with regular scopes , I like the red light controlled by a dimmer switch technique . Hunting over hounds is a totally different experience. Hi Energy hunting. Whichever way you choose to hunt yours , its bound to be a fun experience. Bushpigs are definitely in a class of their own.

I hunted Moz (Coutada 9) Aug. 2013 with hopes of seeing bushpig in daylight but it was not to be. We tracked 2 in Zim (Bubye) but lost tracks in riverine thicket...still tops on my list!
