I think many of us would like to know how the dip and pack works in Benin and how reliable it is. As you know this is not a country many of us have hunted before and this is a major concern for me.
The buffalo herds in your promo video are great. Are those large heads common?
    Regards,
    Philip

Do you need malaria medicine to come and hunt in the area you have?

I was advised to take malaria medicine. I actually didn’t see any mosquitos, but it might have been hard to distinguish mosquito bites from tsetse fly bites when I was scratching!

Yes you need it. As Hank2211 said, they are not much in camp but it is better to be careful.

    Philip,
Benin has a long safari tradition for more than 30 years. It is not a problem to send the trophies worldwide. However this year it takes a bit longer. African parks took over the Pendjari national park and the management of the hunting areas. There was a bit of confusion on who is doing what. It took more time to get the origin certificat.
Usually it takes between 6 and 8 months to get the trophies.

Buffaloes are plentiful in the big complex of Pendjari nat park, W park, Arly park and the hunting areas around the parks situated in Benin and Burkina faso. We can't say large herds are common, usually the herds are composed of about 25/40 heads. I saw herds of about 200 animals...

    best
    Christophe

Benin and Atacora is how I imagine hunting was in "olde Africa." I understand the camp might now have air conditioning in the huts. That would be great, but I would still ask to sleep outside, under the stars, with the sound of hyena and lion in your ears. Hyena tracks around your bed in the morning. Truly amazing. Free ranging animals. No fences. Anywhere.

When you look at the day rates, don't forget to also look at trophy fees - a Roan and buffalo here will be a fraction of what they would be in RSA.

I'm not shilling for Atacora - you can read my full hunt report, which contains among other things a cost comparison - but this helps me dream of going back!

I filed a report on my hunt in Benin in January 2017 with Christophe. He is the best PH I have hunted with, although I have only hunted in Africa 6 times. I should have noted in my report that we saw a huge roan on the last day that Christophe said was 32 inches. As far as I know he is still out there. In response to the question regarding dip, pack and ship, I received my trophies in October (from a January hunt) and they seem to be in good shape.

    Hi Christophe

An offer that will get a lot of attention, I am sure!

Can you clear up one point of confusion for me, please?

The price of 13,000 Euro is said to include the buffalo trophy fee, but then buffalo trophy fee is listed below as 1,000 Euro.

Is this because a second buffalo is possible on this hunt?

    thanks,

    Tim
