Hi all,
Another Brno followed me home the other day.
It's got the integral peep sight, which I really like.

One problem is that when I tighten my scope base/rings (Talley rings) onto the dovetail, the peep sight binds on the bolt body.
It's just enough to be a pain in the arse in that while the empty round is extracted, I have to use quite a bit of force to eject the empty case.

This is the second time I've had this problem with one of these rifles.
I'd rather not say how I rectified it in the past, follies of youth and an over abundance of enthusiasm is all you need to know.

One thing I tried first with my other rifle was to just loosen the scope mount slightly, rather unsurprisingly that did not hold up under recoil.

Given that I've had this happen twice with the same model of rifle, I imagine that this is a common problem to which there must be a clever solution.
So here I am, what would you suggest I do?

I have never heard of that issue before, but would like to know what it is caused by. You could reach out to Talley and ask if they have any idea what it is with their bases that could cause this

I have a Brno 601 which has this issue. I suspect the cause is that the top surface of the sight sits a few thou above the top of the receiver sight base. When the rings are tightened I think it causes them to press the peep sight down into the bolt way. It proved irrelevant to me because my eyes couldn't use the irons very well anyway - so I just removed the peep sight. Long term I want to discuss the issue with a good smith (who would have better mechanical understanding than me) and fix the issue.

I considered just removing them too. But then I’m sure they’d eventually get lost.

I don’t think it’s specific to talley bases. Infact I have a set of Lynx rings/bases that I could try to see if that makes any difference. But i doubt that it would.

If it does protrude above the surface of the receiver then a small relief cut in the base should alleviate the problem, if done in a mill it won’t cause any problems with the base.
Try the other bases an see if it still occurs, the you know what is causing it

As I understand, the peep binds on the actual bolt ? That would suggest that the peep is pushed down by the base ? I would look at where the peep can touch the base ie highest point of the peep. And then remove material from the scope base in only that area with a dremel or file. As long as your scope base to action contact points remain flat, your accuracy will remain, so only grind a minimum. I guess a gunsmith would do it properly with a mill.

That’s a good idea.

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.
