    Gents,
I have an opportunity to purchase a BRNO 602 rifle in a 416 Rigby. The gun is in good shape with good wood and bluing, no marks, and an excellent barrel. The barrel does not appear to be original from CZ but a custom heavy with express sites. On the receiver there is a stamp A.A.L. Phila. Pa which I assume is the gunsmith who put the rifle together or made the barrel. The workmanship is very good and overall appears to be an excellent rifle. Does anyone know who A.A.L is and can you tell me what this rifle may be worth. Is it one I should purchase.
    Thanks

We would need to see pics to really make a stab at it, but it is custom as BRNO didn't chamber a .416 until it became CZ I believe. I think the AAL or AAI perhaps is the importer mark. It looks familiar. Maybe Action Arms Ltd., in fact pretty sure that's it. Depending on the price and condition etc., it might worth a hard look.

How does the safety work compared to whatever you are used to?

Here are some of the pics. The gun was manufactured in 1991.

Nice rifle, You didn't say what the price was... and yeah a factory barrel would have the integral rear sight boss, so its custom.

I have not played with the safety, so I can't answer that.

The seller is looking to get $900. I know the BRNOs are great rifles but I am not sure if this is a reasonable price for it

Unless the barrel is a piece of junk or something else is amiss, I should think you would want to break his door down to snag that rifle at that price.

Good looking rifle, but I haven't a clue what it would be worth. Before I laid down my money however on something intended to hunt big, ugly and ill tempered, I'd want to know that it feeds/extracts and shoots flawlessly.

There is a better chance of that with a 602 than with a 550 action. If it were me, I would already have it home at that price.

$900 seems cheap for that rifle. I am a huge fan of Brno, and would be anxious to get her home. But I don't know what kind of work was needed to fit the 416 Rigby case. For that reason I echo @PHOENIX PHIL. I have heard that the metal can be hard to work. My other thought is that front swivel could drive a nasty dent into your hand. Maybe this started life as a 375 H&H?

The action may have, the barrel is custom it would appear. Its the same action as the later 550 which is used for the Rigby and larger all the time, shouldn't be an issue unless some hammer mechanic did the job, but it doesn't really look that way, and for $900 I would consider it worth the gamble.

Well worth the gamble I would say.

If I choose not to purchase it I will certainly pm you the information. I think he may also be looking to sell another BRNO ZKK 602 in a 375 H&H this one is in even better shape and is all original with a Leupold vx3 1.5x5 scope. I am considering that one as well but I have a CZ Safari Classic in a 375 H&H, so that would have to go. I have not broached the topic of price yet.

    Buy it!

The safety appears to be original(forward for safe and back(like cocking a hammer) for fire).

No real modifications needed to fit the 416 Rigby as the ZKK 602 is a true magnum action.

Feeding needs to be checked but most issues with custom barrel if any would arise from the feeding ramp to chamber or if the wrong magazine follower plate is used.

Pop the magazine floor plate release and then check on the follower plate what the caliber is(it is stamped in there), then you will know what it originally was.

I would fit a barrel band for the sling.

ZKK and CZ actions are not quite the same. ZKK are better. The best ones have the pop up peep sight in the receiver.

If it is any consolation Rigby have used these actions in their rifle builds for many years.

    Buy it.

Based on the information and feedback I got from everyone I did buy it. Had not had a chance to shoot it yet, maybe this weekend.
