Brevex #20 joins the Collection - Custom 350 Mashburn Super Magnum

Well, this makes 2 Brevex Mausers added to the Collection in just one week. Nothing for nearly a year, and now 2 Brevex rifles. Number 19 is a 375 H&H (see post in 375 & up) and this one is 350 Mashburn Super Magnum, which is a 60s wildcat of a 375 H&H reduced to 35 caliber, with a slightly expanded shoulder. However, there is an interesting story about this rifle. .... I actually bought this rifle about 2 months ago on the GunBroker site as a "buy-it-now" sale. It was listed as ...

Brevex Magnum Action in 350 Mashburn
Custom Rifle
Brevex Magnum Action
Caliber: 350 Mashburn
26½ in Holaugh Barrel
Timmy Trigger
Bore: New
Action is worth the price alone.
$2500

I immediately clicked the button and received a confirmation of my purchase from GunBroker. Unfortunately for me, the seller renigged on the sale, and later sold it outside the listing. Reporting the seller to GunBroker did no good for me, but I think they still charged him the 5% commission for the sale. Then, about 2 months later, I was contacted by a fellow Gun Collector asking if I was still looking for a Brevex rifle. He said the caliber was 350 Mashburn Super Magnum. Small World. ... The seller made a reasonable profit, which I was happy to pay.

Here are the specs:

Brevex Custom - SN 106
Breves Action - Stamped "M300 No.106"
Barrel Length - 26-1/2"
Length of Pull - 13-3/4" over Red Silvers Style Recoil Pad
Weight - 10 lbs 6 oz (with scope)
Trigger - Timney Gold Adjustable
Safety - Buehler-Style Low Profile
Sights - NECG Island 1 standing 2 folding rear - NECG barrel-band front sight
Sights - Nikon 1x20 Buckmaster w/ multi-plex reticle w/ Warren Lever Rings
Stock - Light Walnut
Features - rear sling eye - barrel-band front eye

@buckstix
And what speed are you going to get out of that 35. Presumably up around the 358STW, warp speed.

UPDATE .... RANGE REPORT .... I bought some Commercial Custom Loaded ammo w/ 200g bullets and went to the range. I was very disappointed as to how conservative the load was. Velocity was about the same as 35 Remington, and much less than 350 Rem Mag. I am sure my hand-loads will do much better. Powder in the Custom ammo was 71.4 grains and appeared to be IMR4350. PO Ackley published max load for IMR4350 powder is 89 grains with a 250g bullet, and likely much more for a 200g bullet.

And ... the real surprise came when I looked at a fired case. The rifle was not marked as to caliber, and was advertised as a 350 Mashburn Super Mag. Turns out the rifle's caliber is actually .. 350 Mashburn Super Mad "Improved". Future handloads should make this a real 35 caliber screamer.
