Congrats, that rifle will make a fine gateway drug into the 375 and above world. I remember the first 375 I bought, I said something cute like this is all I will ever need. I can’t put my finger on where the actual spiral into the abyss started but I can say it will only end with a shoulder that will no longer tolerate the abuse or I die. <Snip> But don’t for one second think that this is your last 375 or bigger.
Ridiculously true. I had three .375's before I knew what was going on.

I actually bought a box of 375 H&H ammo before I even had a rifle so chambered. I started my big bore rifle journey with a Ruger No 1 in 458 Win Mag. The first round I fired had me hooked. But when I looked at those long, sexy 375 H&H cartridges, I knew I had to back up and punt.
Did that with my Lott. Strange feeling that lasted two days.

Congratulations on your new .375 and enjoy the ride. Suggest you buy a large amount of ammunition. Repeaters tend to repeat and make lots of empty brass.
Remember that the weird ones are fun, but the components are expensive...

The Zastava .375H&H was the first experience I had with the cartridge. I was culling buffalo and was amazed at the performance of both rifle and cartridge.
Hi ben, how was the accuracy and cartridge ejection on it? regards

Congratulations on a fantastic piece. The .375 Holland & Holland magnum is the gold standard of rifle cartridges .
Is your Zastava rifle the Model 70 , with the 3 cartridge magazine capacity ?

It’s made by Zastava for remington I believe it’s very similar to the model 70 with the exception of a 26” barrel.

Little update on my 375h&h. I got out the the range yesterday and got my first experience shooting my 375h&h. It was an enjoyable experience and a pleasure to shot. It is the largest caliber to date that I have had the pleasure of shooting! I’ll be honest I had no idea of potential recoil and was very anxious to discover the feeling for myself. That being said it was no problem at all. To anyone who reads this and is curious as well about recoil it is very manageable. The shooting range I go to is not certified for standing up shooting so it’s bench style stalls. I did however arrive early and ask permission to fire the rifle standing up just to feel it. I was the only person there so the kind man allowed me 1 shot from the standing position. Now I had that out of my system I set up at the bench and began shooting at 50yds open sights down range. 1st shot bullseye I was pleased! To say the least. I continued on shooting 2rd bursts for a total of 10rds. All other shots were in the money with the exception of 1 that I pulled about 5” North West of the bullseye. I had also brought a 22 with me that hasn’t been fired in over 20 years so I had some fun with it too. It was -9 degrees so I didn’t have the desire to spend all day in the cold shooting. All in all it was a lot of fun and now I can say the comparison to a 12 gauge slug is very accurate as for recoil. I’ll be going back to the range very soon because I’m going to mount a scope on my 375h&h now. I’ll be zeroing it in at 100yds I believe I will be able to get some tight groupings out of this rifle.

Side note there were about 8 ppl total shooting yesterday while I was there and I believe 5 of the 8 had muzzle breaks on there rifles. It gets really loud with that many around! I’m 39yrs old and have been shooting rifles since 8yrs old. Most of it was done in the country no shooting ranges but in my mid 20’s I started going to ranges and I can not remember seeing this many ppl with muzzle breaks on there rifles. Is it just me or are there more and more folks installing these on the rifles?

I've decided to pimp my Whitworth up a bit so I'm sending the Bolt and Follower off the Skip Baldwin for Jeweling

Good report,
I'll be firing my first 375 h&h in a few weeks. And I've wondered a million times how it will feel
I was in your shoes as well and it’s very manageable the recoil. I figure if you have had lots of shooting experience with different types of rifles and shot guns this will be a breeze.

I'm 70" and 160# - not a big guy at all.
My Benelli SBE with 3" turkey loads kicks more than my CZ550 375H&H.
You should be fine.

Do dry fire practice with snap caps to get proper trigger control.
Stay off the bench, shoot from sticks or off-hand and roll with the recoil of the rifle.
Don't try to shoot an entire box of ammo.
Take your time and shoot 5-10 rounds to start off.
Let your body become accustomed to the recoil over several range sessions.

@Tony485 first off...congrats on your new .375H&H! Zastavas are great IMO. I have a Whitworth Mark X. If you are in Calgary by any chance and go to Shepard range, let me know. Maybe we could shoot the 375s together.

That would be really fun but unfortunately I live on the other side of Canada, Montreal.

Greetings all! I've been a hunter for 50 years, but only now planning a trip to Africa. I was fortunate and successfully bid on a couple hunts for plains game in SA later this year and next. Also a rare Native Texas (5th generation) and USMC Vet. Hunt safe y'all!
