Good evening, All,
My buddy and i.just had a hunt in NZ not work out. Long story, but we decided that we would still push on to the Southern island. Does anyone know of reputable fishing charters or day trips for fly fishing out of Christchurch? If you have had any experience with either, please let me know.
Thanks Again
Hedge

Hi Hedge, what were you after & what happened ?

I’m just back from guiding in the NT on Banteng, maybe I could help ?

If your in the North Island there is maybe more or certainly as much Fly Fishing for Trout in my area & not far away Sea Fishing !

No offense, but that’s awfully vague
I suppose you are asking if anyone ever had a North Island hunt not go well?
I will say the peak Season is much earlier in the year… I.e. months ago

I hope you’re able to salvage something of the trip with some good fishing, but I’m also really curious what a botched trip in New Zealand means? I think it would generally be difficult not to have a great trip in that country even if just meat hunting.

Well yes that is true & the antlers will be falling off some of the old/mature stags but still Goats-Wild Sheep-Boar & bird hunting for many species including Turkeys !

I wouldn’t think a reputable Outfit would do a Stag hunt this time of year ?

It wasn't because of the date. It was because it was an auction hunt.

@Hedge774 send me a DM with your WhatsApp number & I’ll see what I can organise if you would like ?

Reach out to these guys… Mark, the owner, is a personal friend… they’re a hunting outfitter close to Christchurch.. he might can salvage your hunt at a very affordable price… or… he will almost certainly know quality fishing guides all over the South Island…

He’s a great guy, fun, and easy to get along with… and several on AH know him @Goopy and @roverandbrew have both spent a good bit of time with him as well…

I can vouch for Mark personally- he’s a great guy to spend time with and knows his stuff with hunting/shooting. My wife and I have become great friends with him. We have booked an entire trip with his outfit, NZ COUNTRY (including hunting, fishing and wine country touring) for this spring. I am anxiously counting the days…

That is why I don't bid on or buy auction hunts....

There are many guides for fly fishing within 2 hrs drive of Christchurch.
@Sarg should be able to help, if not PM me.
Sarg is a huge help. Thank you!

He was asking if anyone had experience with "reputable fishing charters or day trips for fly fishing out of Christchurch"

I am blessed to be be currently working with Sarg on this mission. Thank you all so much with all the advice. We are now focusing on the North Island. It's going to be special, that's for sure!

Hope you have an epic fishing excursion.
Please give some details on the botched hunt portion after your trip, if you don't mind.

You might be able to get a last minute Sambar hunt in.. my guide friend told me he was watching a good one on Saturday night in the Manawatu

Forgive me for being vague. Our safari was for 2027 in August. The communication with our outfitter didn't pan out and the relationship dissolved. I'll leave it at that. We lost quite a bit, for us at least, but our airfare isn't refundable and it is on Quantas. That means we're still going to NZ! It appears that we will be flying into Christchurch and heading up to Aukland. We are determined to enjoy our "safari" in this gorgeous country. Thank you for the advice.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
Gents, if you book and pay your deposit before the end of this year , you can have the bigger cull package for the 2026 price! https://www.africahunting.com/threa...griffiths-safaris-starting-at-us-2-560.96285/
I am currently in Northern Cape scouting a hunting area, we will have lots of amazing hunting opportunities for 2027! I will post updated available dates soon!
