You all know my passion about BONGO and Bongo hunt. I start a new hunting season in CONGO BRAZZAVILLE. I have been there last year and I am going again late June.
The hunting area is TALA TALA located in the North of the country on the Cameroon border. The Southern part of the area is bordering the famous Odzala-Kokoua national park. It covers 800 000 hectares. The biotope is REAL rain forest, with big rivers and smaller streams. There is many salt licks and clearing where we set up machan. Hunting is done by walk and stalk on the logging roads, by tracking, from machan, from boats and by calling for duikers. The density of Bongo is very high and it is quite easy to get fresh tracks on the roads or salt lick. Forest buffalo and sitatunga are in good numbers. Yellow backed duiker are seen almost every day !!! quite an adventure to experience the tropical rain forest.

Thanks gentlemen. Sure it is a dream hunt. Real wild tropical rain forest... with some fantastic animals like bongo, dwarf buffalo and a bunch of duikers. Some I have not seen yet !!!
It is not really difficult, one just be able to manage the rain and the humidity.
It is not hard tracking like, Derby Eland !!!

You are right Gizmo, it is a great experience in the wild and remote Africa, kind of an adventure... this is what I enjoy the most, being out hunting, watching, tacking photographs and being part of conservation.
The problem with the book is that I hate sitting !!!! may be later....

    Christophe,

Tell me about the sitatunga in your area? Population density
my previous success and method of hunting. Your comments about Yellow Backed Duiker really made me take notice. It may be time to plan another trip to the forest!

    Hello JES,
It is a new area on a logging concession.
only 2 hunters have been there. One shot a sitatunga on the edge of a swamp and the other one shot a bongo.
As you know the forest sitatunga is the one of the most difficult antelope to get in Africa.
The monitoring shows a very good density of bongo and a good density of sitatunga and dwarf buffalo.
The yellow backed duiker are hunted on walk and stalk , early morning and late afternoon on the logging roads.

I am going there early July for 3 weeks. I will let you know exactly how it is.
    Christophe

Thanks Christophe, I am anxious to hear how the season goes. The Forest Sitatunga and YBD are two very important trophies no doubt. Hopefully with time you can establish the saltines to improve the odds of success. These are Grand Trophies and worthy of the pursuit.

Good Luck with the season, please keep me in the loop on your success. I will contact you via your website with my email address.

    Good Hunting!

I would pay just to be an observer on something like this. The nostalgia of the the Congo, it has always been 'the real Africa' for me.

    Christophe,
What wonderful trophies! Is the Bongo considered a Western Bongo that you hunt in Congo?

You are right it is the Western bongo. It is my Icon... For me it is the most beautiful antelope in Africa.
Hunting this antelope is quite challenging and rewarding, something different to experience in the rain forest for sure.
