Hello everyone, it’s been awhile since I asked a question here. I have some time so I thought I should ask this specific question. I’ve watched plenty of videos of hunting Africa. I’ve always wondered what plains game tasted the best? I would like to base my dream hunt in Namibia based on this. My goal is a nice Sable, but I’m open to other species as well.

Eland is not only the finest tasting plains game, it is one of the best meats I’ve ever tasted. Eland filets cooked over a charcoal fire with garlic butter….or bone marrow butter if the cook knows how! You can have the rest!

I shot an Eland cow about 4 years ago. And it is by far the best I have ever had.....and I have had plenty

I also quite enjoy impala, gemsbok and wildebeest

there was w hole very long thread on this
dark meats (impala blesbuck wildebeest etc) are great for biltong and dry wors and stewing type meals
pink in between meats (kudu, mountain reedbuck, springbuck hartebeest, sable etc) are good for cooking meat like patties, ground beef, boerewors(sausage) sosaties(skewer) etc
then light colour meats like oryx and eland and some others are great to just grill a steak etc

the tenderloin or fillet of most species is good to eat

1 rule with venison is dont overcook it!!!!

everybody has their own taste but this is my opinion

at tallyho we serve venison almost every evening to out guests from the animals they have hunted

Eland for sure. If anyone has a hankering for some Stateside, I've got a broken horned bull on the ranch I'll make a deal on. A great hunt and freezer full of fine table fare.

There is no such thing as bad African venison.
But Eland and Oryx come on top of my list.

What is biltong? I’ve never been to Africa.

Young giraffe
Zebra
Eland

Out of all the African game I've eaten, I'll have to say that Eland is amazing. I had Eland soup, and it was out of this world, and then Eland on the braai, and again amazing. Kudu, I'd say is second in line.

Eland soup.

(1) Grant’s Gazelle (2) Sable

Biltong is dried meat...their version of jerky.

Eland is excellent. Eland oxtail is fantastic. I also like zebra in the top 5 for sure.

All African Plains game is very good compared to whitetail deer. My favorite is eland. Anyone who doesn’t eat the eland bone marrow with toast is really missing out.

My favorites so far are Blesbok and Zebra. But... I have not had Eland yet and I hear it is fantastic. It should be - it just looks like cattle to me.

Zebra filet is my favorite, followed by eland

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.
