Best hunting movies Africa or otherwise

We forgot Shout at the Devil with Lee Marvin and Roger Moore, another classic story from Wilber Smith. No hunting but a great adventure set in Africa.

Based on the amazing true story of P J Pretorius.

Good job remembering that one.

And I who like to rag on folks for grammar and spelling, misspelled his name!:eek::( Its Wilbur...doh!

Another I have seen but is rarely shown is a Stewart Granger movie called, THE LAST SAFARI. About a brash American who wants to kill the biggest elephant and it becomes a pissing contest between he and PH Granger. Some good hunting scenes, a bit melodramatic but quite watchable, filmed in Africa. Bet most here have not heard of it.

Seems an interesting plot, a shame I cannot find it online

I see a few VHS on Ebay and Amazon, but that's about it. Only comes on TV but rarely. I have a recorded copy from many years ago.

Was “The fiercest heart” already mentioned? I saw that movie a very long time ago, impossible to find it today.

Never heard of that one. Here is one maybe not mentioned yet. Again Granger in Harry Black and the Tiger. Hunting tiger in India. Think I saw it as a kid but not since.

I think this the funniest movie ever. All based on deer hunting in the U.P. of Michigan.

I watched this movie last night as I had never seen. Didn’t know if I should be worried because I understood so much about the movie, or because it was so off the wall. I just had to laugh at myself laughing at the movie and fondly thinking of deer camps and characters past.

Lots of good mentions and some I’ve tried to find and cannot-generally if it is in book form the book beats the movie by miles-errr kilometers. Hands Down!
Hatari still a favorite and Gods must be Crazy is a family favorite comedy.
One other non hunting movie that takes place on the continent of Africa worth watching once is Tears of the Sun. Good action military movie and the actress is hot-

Tears of the Sun is pretty good. Watched it once years ago, never compelled to watch it again. I think Blood Diamond is 10 times better.

Blood Diamond is IMO Leonardo’s best performance-that ridiculous revenge movie be darned.
I found a book copy of “Gilligans Last Elephant” On amazon and scooped it up just now-thanks for the tip-

Just bought one on the French Amazon for 8 euros, 12 including shipping. Worth a try

Hmm a few I might add that aren't exactly about hunting but do (after a fashion) feature it:

Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1954), my absolute favorite movie. Worth watching for James Mason and Kirk Douglas alone, plus the sheer amount of underwater cinematography was unheard of at the time. There is a depiction of underwater "hunting" and farming in full diving apparatus, though somewhat different from Verne's original depiction.

King Kong (1933 & 2005). The original is a classic but the 2005 version by Peter Jackson is just awesome.

The Most Dangerous Game (1932). "There is no hunting like the hunting of a man", indeed. The first adaptation of the classic story and notable for sharing the stars and part of the production team of King Kong and utilizing the Skull Island jungle sets of the same film.

Moby Dick (1956). Starring Gregory Peck as Capt. Ahab. A somewhat imperfect adaptation of Melville's work, to be sure, but it's Gregory Peck seeking revenge on a giant bloody whale and he does it magnificently.

Out of Africa is good, but not as good as the book. MOTV has loads of African hunting videos and they are good. Jeremiah Johnson and Josey Wales are incredible, but the prey is not four legged
