Australia for Retirement?

I want her to have a shovel in case the snakes show up! At least a rake...
And she's not much of a shopper tho she's a way better story teller than me.
So she just as well stay and dig.
@freefall
Forgot to tell you the only way that shot with the air rifle was possible was because of modern technology
To get the velocity needed you cock the rifle, insert the pellet and while the action is open give the air chamber a few drops of ethanol and a good squirt if WD40. Close the action and take the shot. The extra lubricants really boost velocity

Problem is my mate was standing about 4 foot to the left of the muzzle and a few feet back. He somehow lit a cigarette at the same time as the pellet and gasses from the lubricants left the muzzle. The resulting flame from ignition of said gasses burnt his eyebrows clean off and singed his beard and moustache. You should have seen the look on his face. He just said man that old BSA sure has some oomph .
TRUE STORY. Would I lie to you

You've never lied to me yet, why would you start now?
.243 bbls make just as good tomato stakes as you said!
Too bad I can't grow tomatos for Shinola.

my late grandfather,s favorite saying was you don,t know shit from shinola, that informed me that i was ill informed in his blunt assessment of my actions. i miss him.

Snakes….people worry too much about nothing.

It is not the snakes one sees first that are the problem.

Well, seems there are a few take-charge species out there...

Folks, with doubtless years of experience, are always saying they won't bother you, if you don't bother them. Unfortunately, I am still seeking out the snake that will accept an apology after I step on it, by accident...

Here in Ontario we have virtually no poisonous snakes, at least to humans. The one we do have actually has a fairly nasty venom, both hemo and neuro toxic. Generally, the anti venom is not in abundant supply.

Is it only me, or do people find the authorities generally underrate the capability of area snakes. The thinking seems to be that the under-reaction is not on the pro destroy side. But it seems to misrepresent the actual capabilities. Places like Oz, one would hope would keep a level head given the existence of some potentially nasty customers. But in a lot of the US and Canada, the snakes seem to have friends in high places. The normal format is something like "The shy and retiring T-Rex..."

I have never killed a snake in my life despite nearly 70 years of interaction with them on my rural operations around Australia . Brown and Tiger snakes are deadly but only been chased once by a pair of Browns . Generally I go one way and they go the other . Our house is well serviced by pythons eat rats , bats and possums - a good service . Often I pick them up when we have overseas visitors . The look on their faces is priceless .

To get your tomatoes to grow bigger than pumpkins just get half a dozen 243 owners to stand near your tomatoes and talk about the virtues and abilities of their cartridge.
The amount of bullshit that will flow will have your little seedlings be 6' tall in a week and massive tomatoes the following week.
Trust me mate.

But think how big they would get if a group of 35 Whelen owners got together !

@PCC600 .
They wouldn't go at all well and Whelen owners DON'T lie. We are pillars of the community and very intelligent people to go with it.
We have time proven results so don't need to use false naysayers to say how good it is.

Look who’s dribbling shit now?

If not for the financial part it would be perfect for me, because my heart would stop the first time one of those many deadly snakes looked at me, so cost of living wouldn't be a concern.
Ah, haven’t see one this year.

. Spent a lot of time in the bush. Got close to a couple but made space pretty quickly.

Faced with that dilemma, I have to resort to the taste test.
Yeah, there were a couple of 10 pound Poms that settled in Australia and thought they would try their hand working on farms just like back home.
Anyway, kangaroos weren’t seen through the day and every morning this Pom comes out and sees fresh pellets.
So he asks the farmer what the pellets are and he says they are bush Tucker. Kinda like smart pills you eat them regularly and they make you smarter. So the Pom takes them and starts chewing on it. Then spits it out and blurts out, Oh, they taste like shit. The farmer goes.See, they are already working. .

Imagine developing either the 243, or the 35 Whelen, after the 9.3x62 was developed. All I can think of is maybe they didn't have the internet, or the telegraph, or something.

Whelen was the Commanding Officer at the Franklin Armoury at the time either he or staff member James Howe, developed the 35 Whelen. Whelen had access to all the info on foreign cartridge developments, both military and civil. The 35 Whelen is likely nothing more than a copy of the 9.3x62 re-dimensioned to the 30-06 case. US case law at the time didn't recognize IP theft .

The best way to enter Australia .
1 fly to Indonesia & hire a people smuggler. Supported by the Indo gov & corrupt police.
2 Through all your ID away.
3 the smugglers will bring you to Aust in a leaky boat that will be intercepted by the Aust Navy.
4 The navy will issue you with a life jacket , hat & sun screen feed you ( remember no pork allowed )& give you medical attention.
5 you will be transported to a luxury dentition center & met by an immigration lawyer funded by the Australian tax payer. most likley an Indian or Pakistani who got in to Aust by this method.
6 Remember you must hate Australia & our way of live to pull this off . you will be released into the community by a government funded judge & go on social security you will not be expected to work,
just attend a pro Palestine rally every so often .
Remember that if you can speak English want to work, love the country & contribute to society you will be sent home, if they know where you come from, on a luxury jet funded by the stupid Aust tax payer.
Indian or Pakistani????... Xenophobic much?
Does it mater if someone is an Australian citizen or you have to be white and British origin?
Asking for a friend..and remind you we have Indian citizens on this forum.
