I just received a quote from a reptuable taxidermist in the northeast. There are others that I am contacting. Does some one have suggestions on another taxidermist from Maryland to New England area? I may have to take a chance and have them mounted in Africa and have them shipped. Here is the quote. Thank you.

Greater Kudu Shoulder Mount - $2,510.00
Zebra Pedestal Mount - $$3,750.00 plus the cost of the base. Base costs are determined by style and type of wood chosen.
Eland Shoulder Mount - $3,950.00
Gemsbok Shoulder Mount $2,100.00
Hartebeest Shoulder Mount $1,925.00

If you think that is sticker shock, wait until you get a shipping quote for full mounts from Africa….
@gizmo and his Top of Texas Taxidermy are a good reference for quality and pricing in the States.
This is the link to his price list so you can compare…

Those are stupid prices. The thought process must be “ let’s double our prices and see if the sheep will pay it”

No thanks

I was thinking the same thing about shipping costs.

Those prices are very high. I can’t speak to a good taxidermist in your area but there are many good taxidermist in the USA and all of them will ship to you.

Erik Grimland who’s mentioned above is excellent.

HH

Those prices are ridiculous. I was just updating my spreadsheet of where my taxidermy is and the various statuses...3 countries and 6 different shops...and I said I was done bringing stuff home. This next Africa hunt in Oct I'm going on the record...bring nothing home! Can I get a witness?!

I know the shop I talked to is two years behind on work and I've heard through the grapevine that they are quoting ridiculously high prices because they don't want the extra work right now!

I did talk to another shop Who's going to do my work for a third of the price, he's a well, respected taxidermist in my area!

Famous last words.

On my last hunt I said that I was only going to bring on mount back and a couple of euro's.

Well that didn't work out too well. 3 finished mounts and 4 euro's.

But as for price, that is where I decided to have mine done in South Africa. My local taxidermist had raised his prices enough plus he was 15 months out once he received the d&p. In the end I saved a few bucks by having my stuff done in South Africa but not much.

For my next trip in a few years I'll probably have Bullseye Taxidermy do my work!

That’s interesting because that is who is doing my last trip that I didn’t want taxidermy on.

I was recently quoted a price for a Buffalo Pedestal shoulder mount that was actually more than the Buffalo hunt cost!

$4950 + $1850 to prep the form for the pedestal mount & $2000 for the base.
Ouch @358 Norma ! This tells me the taxidermist doesn't want to mount a Cape buffalo, but if you are determined, you're gonna pay dearly. 2k for the base is absolutely absurd, it's all absurd.

We’d love to help you, please feel free to reach out. We’d be able to do the work and ship it to you for a lot less than what you were quoted. @Mekaniks posted my price list so that will give you an idea of what we charge. Bases are POR but I won’t beat you up on those either and all of mine are custom built by me.

I think they are just really far behind on work. They did have three finished Cape Buffalo in there shop waiting to be picked up by the owners. I do think there are better ways to do business. Because a month before I left for my trip, they quoted me $3500 for a shoulder mount.

That, without a doubt, is the highest prices I’ve ever heard of.

Sure I will send you some pics and info tomorrow

Look up Dan martin of reflections of the wild taxidermy in deer park Maryland. I feel he does good work and has fair prices. He has done a pronghorn for me and is doing my 2023 Africa trip

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
