Application Season what are your plans

Wyoming just opened
New Mexico opens in a few weeks
NR Idaho OTC opened and is now closed, waiting results. Then the big draw opens later on.
Arizona opens in a few weeks
Then it spread out
Utah, Wyoming deer and antelope and a few others
Then the late ones Texas, Oklahoma, and more.

What are you doing this year?

For me: 4 or 5 elk applications, 5 deer, 5 antelope.

Should have enough points for an elk or two, a couple deer and hopefully an antelope.

I apply for everything at home in Colorado
Buy deer and antelope points in wyoming. In double digits there
I buy bear points in Michigan, wisconsin and Minnesota every year also. Cheap points and a easy hunt with my son when we draw about once a decade in each state.
I dropped out of all other states as the prices kept going up and if I already hunted there anyway.

Will keep buying points in Wyoming. Will put in for a few hunts in NM. Fall bear will be a last resort.

Unless you have an insane amount of points for sheep or moose in Wyoming, you can probably give up on that dream. Unless of course you move to Wyoming a year before the draw.

They changed the allocations for non-residents a few years ago by half.

Not to be deterred, I drew antelope in Wyoming last year and will apply for deer this year. Will put my girls in for antelope in Wyoming and hope to hunt with them.
Utah otc archery elk, dedicated permit for deer so that’s a given. Have points to draw a limited entry archery elk but will hold off until next year so that I have more time/can be away from home longer as my kids will be old enough to fend for themselves
Have an opportunity to hunt some stuff in Alaska so still considering jumping on that -

Truth. I’ve been sticking with elk and antelope. I think I have 9 elk pts. Burned my antelope points last year and had a blast DIY.

If you live in the Rockies, it makes a lot of sense to get involved in the points pyramid scheme. As you can drive over the border or 2 borders and be hunting within a few hours.

If you don't live in the Rockies, it makes things worse.

California is especially doomed for west coasters. Nevada and Arizona have very high point entry barriers, before any reasonable chance at success. Or at least that is what I tell people.

If you could be a resident of any state, and could manage the crime, New Mexico has good hunting as most all of it is a draw.

Wyoming ist he obvious choice for best, but the weather of my home state is a train wreck, and the place is expensive with a very limited job market. Empty nester heaven.

Drew a General Tag in Idaho for Whitetails. Going to do two weeks.

One 5 days after the opener and bait bears in the unit and see how that goes.

Then the last 5 days and run a trap line for Martins.

States can change the rules or non-resident allotments at any time or when I do draw it might conflict with my schedule. For the costs of tags and hunts, I’d rather just hunt in Europe. It doesn’t take that much longer to reach from the east coast than some destinations in western states.

Got to play to win, but the odds get harder all the time. I will apply in a few states I already have points in for most species. I Put in for Once in a Lifetime tags but am building points (which isn’t the best plan) for deer, elk, pronghorn to use when I move back to the Lower 48. Not worth my time now as it would take away from hunting Alaska

If you are doing guided, yes. This is a sensible option. Europe has a lot of options.

I have done a few guided hunts, this past year 7, I think another 14 or so spread out over my life. Nothing compared to most on here.

I would rather hunt by myself, but man do I love private land!

My local tag applications don't happen until May. So I haven't given that much thought yet. I have applied for a Reindeer hunt in Iceland, so I hope that tag comes through.

I am a Nevada resident so I'll put in for almost every NV tag.

I'll also put in for WY antelope and elk. I had a good time using my 2 antelope points last year on a guided hunt, now I want to save up points for awhile and then seek to get a good public buck DIY.

I'll also put in for deer in California, believe it or not, California does not discriminate against out of state residents for the deer draw, and I have a few points built up there already, I'm really hoping to draw one of the coveted X zones in the Sierra Mountain range, so I can also pick up an OTC black bear tag and go for an epic DIY bear/deer hunt in the Sierras.

Hope to draw Nebraska mule deer tag. Continue wyoming and colorado point game. I have like 7 iowa points that I may just burn on public at some point.

First ever applications in for antelope in Co & just got emails through that we were successful ! Two tags to hunt in October, so we do not have to use Landowner tags. No difference to us I guess but the outfitter has two extra tags to use so good for him.
