Fellows, this is my question!
I have a Mauser customized 7,65x54 argentino, a great machine and a very good caliber... My doubt is... Anyone uses the bullets I use?
I know someone, like velodog, use the .303 british, wich has the same bullet and velocity than my mauser, but...
ANYONE USE THIS OLD SHOTS?
Please, tell me about the animals you shot down!
thanks!

I use a .303 Lee Speed regularly when hunting. Its a fine round if I do my job. I like the Woodleigh 215 grainers on bigger animals and they have given good penetration and expansion. I know they make a variety of other weight projectiles so you should find something that suits you. Below is a photo of the LSA Lee Speed with a young bull shot on a cull last wet season. For mine I don't notice a difference between the 308 and the 303 on game. Just comes in a much more fun package.

Excellent!!
Look... a time ago, in a post of my adventuras in my land with the mauser argentino 1909, I explain the performance of this round... It´s very similar than the .303 british, only with a plus of shell capacity!
The 7,65 use the same bullet, same weight and powder, but develops a little more vellocity because the charge, if you RELOAD...
I´m happy to see people using this shot, around the world!

My little man the .303 and an Impala ram I shot.

Here in RSA the .303 is a common caliber like it is with our fellow Aus hunting brothers. Most of the rifles that are in use are ex military rifles that has been been made hunting rifles. The term used I believe "Down Under" is " Bubba"

Mine is a Lee Enfield no4 mk 1 made in the Springfield factory. It is scoped with a 3-9 x 40 Redfield Scope. Mine shoots well with a 180 gr Sierra game king. I am not a speed freak and with a lowly 2200 f/s it has accounted for many many Impala and warthog.

I shoot two .308's as well. Mine is horses for courses. The one .308 I shoot with 155gr bullets the other with 168 gr bullets.

Other than Clayton if I walk on the spoor of big stuff I prefer to use either my 9.3x62 or my .375 Ruger. However as we can see on Clayton's photo the old war horse is fully capable of doing the job.

Springfield did not make No 4 Mk 1's, but.. Savage Arms did.

I have just finished changing a "sporterised" 1900 BSA LE into a Lee Speed styled rifle.

I made an aperture sight for it.

Then did another one for a friend

I have made a barrel mounted sling eye and have the sling hooks to add to a carrying strap that wil be fitted up soon and as I will be almost exclusively using a cast bullet I had a mould cut to suit my barrel dimensions and with gas check and lube it weighs 190gn so with H335 I expect to be able to run it to 2250-2300fps for a 200yd hunting load.

And I would say you have done a pretty credible job of doing so, looks nice!!! That is a lot of work, Well done.

Good job with the cast bullets too!... I´m tried for years, and actually use this lead bullets ("lee" mold, 186 grs RN) for subsonic shot ONLY... with this shots I hunt "vizcachas", ñandues and another animals, and with a moderator, the noise is null...
To hunt big animals, and gain distance, I use Remington RN bullets (180 grs, corelokt) and Sierra Pro Hunter, 180 grs too...
Average muzzle speed: 2450 FPS...
Greetings!

I realize I'm late to this party; but I currently am having an affair with the 7.65x53 Argentine Mauser of the Cavalry Carbine variety.
It all started 2 years ago, with a 1911 "DWM" mfg'd Modelo 1909 Carbine in 7.65 (.311"-.312") bullets. I liked it so much that I acquired two more Carbine barrels.
They are 21-1/2" long (1-DWM and 1- FMAP) and I picked up a 1908 Brazilian (DWM) action and mated it to the DWM barrel. After headspacing (.010" taken off
the breach) she shoots nearly as good as the factory original. My next one will also be of the Mannlicher styling but a sporter version with a peep site.
I also have Mauser's in 7x57, and 8x57, and I want to build a 9.3x62 Bush veld rifle as well !!
The bullets used in the below pics were Speer 180 grn RN (Molly coated) with H-4895 powder for a velocity of 2500 fps (published for 29" Bbl),
I'm probably getting 100-150 fps loss out of the short Bbl, I have also tried Hornady 150 grn SST's (best group so far, 1" @ 75 yds) with AA-2495.
I do have some 200 grn GC cast bullets sized .313" but yet to test those out. Shorter range shooting because of no scope (hard to see target @ 100 yds)

1st pic- 1909 and 1908 (incomplete)
2nd pic- targets @ 65-70 yards
3rd pic- 1908 complete; and it shoots just a tic better
with hand-guard, barrel band, and nose-cap

Nice job on those Brit's !! They sure are purdy !!

I have a beautiful 1908 DWM action that I built into a 7x57 but am on the lookout for a SR action that I can build into a 7.65x53 as well. I really like the straight wristed look of those two shown.

Something like this but maybe with a stock barrel band

I have had a new barrel put onto the Lee Enfield and reshaped the top of the wrist socket to have it closer to the sleek Lee Speed look and feel

This was the difference in the two socket tops on a 400 I am building and a 375 I did for a friend.

It has matching numbers but a bolt handle treatment I hadn't seen before --- maybe mounted infantry???? anyone with an idea

I had done some more work on my Lee Speed styled rifle and I am going to call this one done now, except for bluing of course. After the new barrel, grip cap, and forend tip in buff horn and the strip back and re-finish I took it out for a shot and it was shooting low enough that I removed the dovetailed front sight blade and filed off the top of the ramp and hand cut a new dovetail. I found the blade @ .05 just a bit thin to pick up so split a piece of steel that is .125 thick and after filing the original blade down and thinning it toward the top, tapped the new blade over it. It makes a sight I can seen now and is what I did for a couple of other front sight blades I have. When I worked out the height I needed to file it down to I found it would come too close to the top of the split so filed off the dovetail and cut a new one. Went out for a few more shots and as I have not worked up a load for this barrel yet so just had the 17.3gn of blue dot /cast bullet load that has shot in other 303's and while the"group" was nothing to write home about it was centered over the point of aim at 50 yds so I can now start load work-up.
I have some babbit enriched cast bullets aged up and ready to go so I can start to find out what this one will do.
