Anyone know what is up w/ Winchester Ammo's discontinued offerings?

It’s a “you” problem because that’s how business owners have elected to fix their problem. You’ve got a supply of reloading components for the calibers you shoot and load for. You’ve selected your solution, just like the manufacturers and retailers have as well. I’m well on my way of following suit with you (until I add something new). If manufacturers didn’t change in some way we’d all be faced with a smaller industry and likely more expensive products. Simple economy of scale.

Ultimately businesses adapt to changes in the consumer market, as they require for profitability. Consumers learn to adapt to those manufacturing changes, which leads to a constantly evolving market place aka a vicious cycle.

So your hypothesis is valid, but how do you square the fact "Olin/Winchester" is still MFG'ing Mod 70 in .338WM & .458WM yet has determined to stop making .338WM & .458WM brass and zero "off the shelf" Ammo? & that ain't market manipulation?! Someone is going to find something to complain about out when it comes to ammo, or anything. You can’t make everyone happy. Winchesters not loaded these grain weight loads, swifts not making enough A-Frames, Hornady DG rounds aren’t performing, Barnes is causing my double to lock up …. Should I keep going?

I've spent a lot of time calling all over the Midwest looking for NOS and junkyards for most agricultural equipment, including tractors. Paint, decals, pistons, rings, yes. But, many of those parts you have to find years after they stopped making them, or fab.

Just like firearms stuff. It's around, but sometimes damn hard to find.

No vicious cycle is changing market impacted by geo-socio-political issues as well as ownership changes and directives that many fail to see, understand or realize.

If a manufacturer has a duty to keep making a product they develop, a consumer needs to be held to the same standard should be mandated to buy said product at the same frequency every month or year regardless of the curve balls the economy, their bank account, or life throws at them.

I get your frustration. You asked a question, I answered it. Reality is, we as consumers do this to ourselves. We create the cycles through panic buying, lifetime purchases, etc. I’m a perfect example. If I find a load I like I’ll often buy 1-5 cases of the same lot number at once. The dealer (manufacturer’s customer) I bought it from now has their sales data skewed. They order heavier not accounting for one person buying that much in that period of time, they order deeper, it bogs them down with product tying up cash flow so they don’t buy as much next month or year, it adjusts production and so on. How does the manufacturer know that I just bought a multi year supply? I’m a cog in the wheel of the vicious cycle that’s been created.

Dude, tractors & "farming" equipment is absolutely my wheel house the "tractor" I was referring to was a MF 35 Deluxe (that is my Father-in-Law's hobby tractor, that my Wife uses for the "truck patch" garden) .... if you're looking for tractor parts DM me & I'll try to help , but this topic is *apples to oranges technically, MF , in my context is a offshore company, but parts are still available for a 90yo tractor, from the MFG ?

Like I already stated, y'all win , I'm just a silly disgruntled GenX , not "hip" to "progress"

What do you want or need for 458wm. I have a lifetime supply including many discontinued loads from several manufacturers including a couple with ownership changes. I dont shoot or hunt this caliber anymore as I’m down to two rifles in it including a Pre64 M70 African and another collectible. I might even still have a box or two of 338WM. I know I have zero 358Win though

I'm rebuilding my IH 350 torque amplifier currently. I think my carrier was from "Walts". I forgot who they said remanufactured it. I think the kit either was Yesterday's Tractors or Steiners. Already rebuilt the engine and converted the oil filter from canister to cartridge, and updated the ignition (aftermarket).

DM me , I got a few guys local who have "junk yard" stuff , but the 350 wasn't a popular model in my region , 806 & up are/were the top Model/HP as row crops & cattle have been the # 1 , despite I think a guy near me has/had a couple 350s in his inventory.

People are absolutely swayed by media. So, I see what you're driving at. But, the guys that write articles generate content for all industries. That is definitely manipulation, but they are not the gun, clothing, dogs, tents, axes, chainsaw industries. They exist because we want to chase shiny balls, keep up with the Jones, go to the field with the latest gear. Who needs Courtney's, Sitka, Lacross... wool and clogs served our ancestors for millennia. Cause we wanted newer better kit. This forum is media, and makes me sure I *need* a Hyem 89b someday.

Dude, I appreciate your well-meaning offer, but I didn't start the post to poor mouth, heII I don't really know why I made the post anymore. I just see a cliff approaching & I don't like it. I reload & I have "supplies"..... You & the others have shown that I've reached "fudd" status , so to sad for me ..... thing is I shoot .458WM, not everyday, but its my go to backup for Bear, some would cliam overkill, but I ain't into helicopter rides anymore. As for .358W its my favorite for distance & heavy brush/flora , plus in the area where I pack - Arkansas - .358W surprisingly has been the caliber of choice. Of course my experience is a micro set

I never never said AH wasn't legit. It is *still* an "influencer", as negative as that word has become in the TikTok world. Media isn't always a dirty word.

One of the reasons I love it is the beauty of experience and aggregation of sample size. And probably because it's as close to a hunting camp you can enjoy in the offseason.

I get it more than you know. I shoot a bunch of calibers with limited modern offerings today and aside from a couple it will not surprise me in the least if they go away in the future. The main calibers I shoot are 6XC, 257wby, 275 Rigby, 280AI, .308Win, 300WM, 300H&H, 375H&H, and a vintage 450NE 3-1/4”. I’d love for there to be all sorts of factory loads and always be them but I recognize there won’t be because times change, and not all consumers like the same things or are impacted by marketing the same.

The only company that I think will continue to produce ammo for their calibers/guns is Weatherby. I believe as long as it stays in the family they will. Especially if they keep offering a gun chambered in a certain Weatherby Caliber. They’re in turn going to have a couple different factory loads for it because of the spirit of the company and their families legacy not because they have to.
