Anyone have a 35/300 WSM

I started with Winchester 325WSM brass for my 416WSM. Expanding up to 416 noticeably thinned the necks. So much so that the resized neck only bearly grips the projectile, they must be crimped. The Bertram Brass with the 416WSM stamp on them have much thicker necks and resize perfectly.
Going from 325 to 358 is only 0.023" so you should be OK, but a lee factory crimper might be worth the investment.
I wish Bertram was still around. ADG and Lapua seem to be the highest quality WSM brass options at the moment.

I'm using Federal brass to work up loads for my .375 WSM as I did for the Sambar, then switching to Winchester brass and confirming POI, before I hunt with it. Seems to be working great, been knocking down a truck load of game with it in 2025. Brass is lasting well, I have three pretty hot loadings on the WW with no lost cases... pockets are tight, neck tension is good, sizes with about the right amount of force on the press.

I considered the 375 WSM variation but am going to play with the 35 this season and see how things go. You shooting yours on a Ruger? I’ve noticed a trending theme with the rifles you post photos of
The mag box on this CZ/Montana is 3.16” internal length, I should be capable of slipping some of the heavier monos in this rifle

I built my rifle on a long action so COL is not an issue, although I found a load with the 250 TTSX with an accuracy node at 3.000", so for the time being, I am sticking with that. You will like the Sambar... it was just a little too tight to my .350 Rem Mag in performance to stick around.

P.S - Yeah, Ruger M77 Mark II be my Boo...

Load that girl up with some nice 225gn TTSX and go have fun
Or if you can get them depending on game and distances a nice Woodleigh 225 or 250 RNSP.
Both those put a lot of big hurt on big critters.
Problem is it ain't doing much more than a good Whelen.

Thanks for the input Bob. I have a 35 Whelen my son (Helix6Precision) built for me also.
That 358WSM has some nostalgia for me and why not have another rifle.

From what I can tell, the WSM is almost the equivalent of the 358 Norma w/about 14% boost in case capacity of the Whelen. Either round is likely plenty for most critters on this planet other than the real giants of Africa like rhino, hippo and elephant.

You right on, from what results I've seen on plains game in Africa(Sable,Roan, Kudu etc.)it does the job. My father used a Model 71 Winchester until I
started using it. It was it's own breed, a real thumper and the 358WSM will far exceed it with the nock down results. 35 calipers have quite the knock down capability. You want a caliper that puts most of its energy into the animal your hunting rather than just blowing though it.

Decided the 24” barrel was just too long for how I like my guns to balance (middle of magazine) so I chopped it down to 21” and did a little work with a bastard file and chamfer bit.
It feels perfect now!
Been playing phone tag with JES the past few weeks with holidays and hope to get it sent off soon.
Also picked up a Leupold VX5HD 2-10x42 w/firedot.
Waiting for my Bansner stock before I order rings.

You should have waited until the rebore was done before you chopped... the balance is going to change rearward.

Thought about that. It’s still quite a bit forward of where I’d like it and my new stock should be about 10-12oz lighter than the walnut. I’m actually curious if I’ll have to shorten it some more.
I figure to make a buttcuff w/bullet loops and use my ammo to get it balanced right.

I’ve been using winchester and federal brass 300wsm to 416 with no issues, usually don’t crimp. Brass comes out a lot shorter so I’ve never had to trim. I think 9.3 or 375 would be better if you ever wanted to go after the big stuff.

What do you load the Whelen with??
Get hold of some CFE223 and Stoke it up. Our runs the 359rem mag and gives the 358 Norma a run for its money.
Bob

Already bought the 300 WSM.
It’s gonna be a rebore regardless and realistically require necking up 300 WSM brass to load as well.
There are several advantages the 35 has over 8mm, not the least of which being the ability to plink with very inexpensive handgun bullets loaded with Trailboss for smiles all day.
I have a Ruger77 350 REM MAG that shoots 180 grain Hornady & Speer pistol bullets very well with Trail boss, lots of fun with little recoil.
