Anti-Tick Clothing Works Or So Science Says

I just thought it was interesting since everyone here already recommends doing this. Now science agrees. Figured it would help out some of the people that ask about ticks.
Gee, the insecticide used by ranchers to keep insects and external parasites off there cows also works on cloths...I wonder why somebody had to do a study on top of the ones already done to prove it sticks to cows hide and hair

It's a U.S. government study funded by the taxpayers. One can draw their own conclusions.

Not treating my clothing with permethrin was the one big mistake I made before my first trip last year. While the flies/mosquitos weren't too bad, my ankles got eaten up by "pepper ticks". They still show the scars a year later. Interestingly, my gaiters appear to have worked well - I had nothing above them, only below. They are the inexpensive Boyt canvas gaiters.

Next year, I'll be treating my gaiters, socks, shorts, shirts, and hats with the stuff well before I depart!

I buy the product at Academy and it is for clothes(yellow bottle Sawyer brand). I can not recommend any do-it-yourself ideas with chemicals like these. Think about it... get all the way to Africa and realize you gave yourself a rash in a very private spot due to over concentration! Ouch!

permethrin is permethrin, no magic in the Sawyer brand, they just dilute it and put it in a spray bottle. BTW I use old Sawyer bottles as sprayers
