Ammo Weight on airplanes… How strict are they on 5kg/11lb?

I beg to differ my friend…you are an expert shot! I think you told me you have attended the SAMI safari shooting school at least twice?
Three times at SAAM and I am still in need of training:)
Maybe we can get an AH group together. It would be fun!

last April when I flew Airlink there was no charge for the ammo case it was just checked in and off to PE. Has something changed?
No that is how it is supposed to work. They should not charge for it. Luggage fee, rifle fee, but no third bag fee for ammo box.

I am able to fit the ammo these way ( without the cardboard box of the .416 Rigby ) is these ok with TSA and Airlink?
I am traveling from San Antonio to Johannesburg via Atlanta with Delta, then traveling to Niassa Mozambique in Airlink

Thank You

Those 416 rounds need to be in some kind of box. Doesn’t have to be the original one but something designed to carry ammo.

So my daughter will be fhunting with me next year. I’m taking 2 rifles and 1 big handgun. She is taking 1 rifle. For balance, I plan to mix my heavy handgun ammo with her lighter weight rifle ammo.
And the other box of ammo will be my heavy rifle ammo and my light weight rifle ammo.
Do they care about mixing ammo as far as who’s is who’s?

It will have to be another box, no way to fit the cardboard box in there…

Well Boys…
On the way to Tanzania…
For the record…they didn’t even think about checking my ammo so I guess I’m like 25-0 on that now…
I could’ve had 300 pounds in there.
Interestingly Air France did have me fill out a second declaration form in Atlanta

It's all fun and games until someone tells you that it's not.

I'd box them all to take the risk and stress out of your travels.

Maybe you're carrying more ammo than you will need?

Just checked in for my flight to Atlanta and then on to Johannesburg. It's my 13th trip and I still have a perfect record. They still have never checked my ammunition. It is perfectly legal and ready to be weighed, but they didn't seem interested at all when I asked them about it.

That's because you strike them as an Honorable Gentleman!! lol

Only time I have had it weighed was flying Qatar out of Houston both trips they weighed it. Delta never has and the one time I flew United they just asked if under 11lbs.
