I am looking to trade a guided Alaskan brown bear or moose hunt for this fall in exchange for a double rifle or big game hunt elsewhere in world. Interested in buffalo, last minute leopard hunt, lioness, or free range Namibia safari. Something different elsewhere ? Since I plan on sharing all my future hunting with a partner ........whether it be a friend, my son and/ or daughter I will open up that same invitation to you. Do you have a hunting partner who shares your dream of hunting Alaska for bear or moose ? Let's talk ! I seek a fair exchange and will be more than reasonable on my end for the right trade. It's my hope to establish a long lasting relationship with somebody who lives to hunt. I may have options for a moose/ bear hunt in the interior as well as one opening on the Alaska Peninsula for 2015. I'm thinking of a 10 to 12 day hunt, but that can be extended as need be for weather or any other reason to ensure your success. Have a double rifle you want to work into the trade ?? You know, the one that never quite made it on safari or did, and you don't plan on using again ? I can be reached at: McForestry@optonline.net
Thanks, and hope to hear from you !

What kind of double are you looking for? I would be interested.

Hello ! I'm open somewhat to suggestions. Was thinking .470 NE , Krieghoff, but not being very knowledgable about double rifles I am flexible. It's been my dream to own a great double rifle not just for myself, but to later hand down to my son? Though I am interested in a fair trade for both parties, if an agreement is reached ultimately that fairness will be judged by the success of your hunt. I am also open to and would appreciate any suggestions from forum members as to what I should consider in a double rifle and the fairness of a trade of this sort. Thanks !

Treemantwo what is the normal price that you would charge for the bear hunt and for a moose hunt that would help kinda scope the offer so that you get a fair trade for your services.

Hi Dave. You can view the hunt prices by going to: alaskahunts.net and that will give you an idea of the hunt options. Many outfitters are getting in excess of $22,000.00 for their bear hunts on the Peninsula. I've been guiding for Tony and Revelation Mountain Outfitters for 11 years and am now a partner (Alaska Guide License # 1354) As far as a trade is concerned there are many possibilities and I may consider a 2 on 1 with one paying client. No one can guarantee the success of a hunt and it is illegal for me to offer a guarantee on a hunt, but as I mentioned in my first post my goal here is to give someone a great Alaskan experience AND take an animal. For me the hunt/trade will be considered consummated when you harvest the species you choose and walk away with a memorable hunt. Hope this all helps and if anyone needs to talk to me please leave contact information. Thanks !

Derek None of my double's are in that price range. Also after my upcoming safari and a family get together this summer my boss isn't going to turn me loose for 10-15 more days this fall. I have a Griz or brown bear on my radar in the next couple years and my better half really wants a black bear. So I will keep your contact info when I start more in depth planning later this year. I handled most all the doubles at SCI this year and the heym and verney-carron were the two that just more pleasing to my eye and just felt right. I didn't like the blazer and the Krieghoff saftey puts me off. But those that shot them love them. So my recommendation is to make sure what ever brand you chose make sure it fits. Very much like a fit of a fine shotgun, the fit make the eye line up exactly and the recoil seem much lighter than it is. The 470or 500 are great choices. I really like my 450NE the ballistics are basically the same as the 470 but components are easier to come by. the 500 is a good step up in power but easy to manage. I hope you get a trade for a nice double or dangerous game hunt for someone here on AH.

Hi Dave . Thanks for getting back to me. I will follow the auctions. When you and your better half are ready to hunt in Alaska let me know. A combination for brown and black bear is very feasible for a 2 on 1 and I would allow 10-12 days to have a great experience as well as a successful hunt. Thanks again !

Would you reccommend spring or fall hunts?

Treemantwo, that statement shows a lot of class...goodluck.

Thank You for the compliment ! Since it's not permissible for me to guarantee a hunt's success in Alaska.....and not really ethical elsewhere in the the world I would only feel that a fair trade would be made once a client takes an animal. I'm not just trying to provide a great experience, but a great experience together with a trip to the taxidermist ! I've been guiding in Alaska for over 11 years as an assistant guide and recently became a registered guide. I love to hunt......and yes, do so NOT for the money. Aside from this trade that I am entertaining I have a few hunts available this fall for moose and bear. We will hunt hard and glass until our eyes water. I will allow enough days to ensure a trip to the taxidermist.

I sure hope you come right..

Would you reccommend spring or fall hunts?
Dave, that's a common question. I love hunting, period, so I'm a bit biased and enjoy hunting both times of the year, but here's my take on this: If you want to hunt both brown bear and black bear as a combination a fall hunt may give you some of the best game spotting and weather opportunities. It also offers the possibility of hunting other species. The hides will be at their best too. This hunt will be in the interior and tends to be more enjoyable due to the weather. If someone is looking for a more hardcore hunt and possibility at a 9.5 ' + trophy then a spring or fall brown bear hunt on the Peninsula would be the right choice. Though last spring was the exception, you can plan on equally nasty weather on the Peninsula on either a fall or spring hunt. This past May (spring hunt) the temps ranged from 50- 70 degrees and we suffered sunburn. We also went 3 for 3 on brown bear with two being taken on day 1 and the the 3rd on day 5......after passed opportunities. Here you are hunting brown bear only and we don't use snowshoes. On an interior spring hunt be prepared to travel on "shoes" or snow machine. One last consideration.......when does your wife or significant other want her vacation with or away from you ? :)

Treemantwo no she is the adventurous type and would be left behind and always carries her end of the log. I want a nice old brown but my main goal would be to get her on a nice black bear and get a chance to see the interior. I hunted POW several years back on a fall hunt that the weather wasn't conducive to much of anything but still had an amazing time. While in the service I have been in the interior in the 70's when the AK state bird was trying to suck all the blood out of you and when the stars are shining and it's -45. Will send you a PM after we get back from safari and start a conversation about a possible fall 2016 bear's hunt.

should read WOULDN'T be left behind.

Those AK birds are still around, but we seldom have to deal with them during our hunts. Enjoy that Safari Dave. Feel free to contact me any time if you have further questions. Thanks !
