AH Get Together In Nashville During Safari Club International (SCI) Convention 2023

Sorry I had to miss this year's edition of SCI and thus the get-together.

Could those who did attend perhaps give this of us who could not (or did not!) attend their impressions of the show, especially compared to Vegas and Reno?

Would love to hear your thoughts.
Despite my still being on crutches, Wendy and I had a great time. We had fun with @ActionBob and @Just Gina at the Wednesday and Thursday concerts and with @spike.t, Louise, Mr & Mrs @Mekaniks, @ArmyAV8tor, @Vanguard2279 and everyone else at the AH event.

The Saturday night banquet and auction was great despite that I was outbid on the rhino hunt! Lol. The set of SCI rifles sold for $675k! The two private cruises and tuna spear fishing trips with Don Jr sold for $250k each. Someone bought the polar bear hunt for $125k and donated it back and it sold the second time for $100k. The Lynyrd Skynyrd concert was really rockin and the band was patriotic and supportive of SCI.

We bought floor passes for all four days and three of the four banquets. The show floor aisles were a bit tighter than in Vegas but we liked that everything was in one big room. Nashville bar hopping was a fun change of venue with prices a bit less than Vegas. By all accounts, the show was very successful and records were broken. All the outfitters I spoke with were quite happy.

DSC is too early in the year for us so we will likely be back to SCI in Nashville next year and hope to see y’all there!

@CAustin ! So glad I got to see you Charlie!

Had a blast looking at pics and visiting with you, and I greatly appreciate you teaching me the proper way to prepare
@BnC 04
Thanks for coordinating this evening!! @ActionBob and I enjoyed visiting with you! I think it was a great turnout and this was just the first one!
Such a fun night! @BeeMaa , it was great meeting you and visiting!
@Bullthrower338 Cody I wish you could have been there also!
this was my wife Leslie’s first exposure to everyone! I am so grateful… her thoughts were wow so many lady hunters! Second so kind and down to earth everyone was… a special callout to @rinehart0050 snd his precious parents for taking the time to tell Leslie the wonders of Africa not just from me…I think she will be going with me in 2025!!!!! Thanks everyone!!!

@BnC 04 this was Jenni’s and I first time attending an AH event. Had a great time and thank you for arranging it.

AS for the shows. It was nice this year DSC and SCI (Jenni and I attended both) were a month and a half apart. Next year I think they are only two weeks apart. Really enjoy Dallas (and going to the YO steakhouse) and seeing the outfitters so will have to see about going to Nashville. I do agree, at SCI, easier to meet with outfitters. Thanks again and hope everyone had safe travels home.

@BnC 04 thanks for putting together the event at Johnathans. It was the perfect place for the get-together. My wife and I had a great time.

I'm glad that I finally got to meet some of the AH'ers who I've followed for some time such as Just Gina, Action Bob, and Spike.T. I had met @Tom Leoni at the SHOT Show a few years ago so I was happy he and Pierre could make it as well.

The beauty of Nashville for us was getting there by car.

My pleasure folks, we really enjoyed visiting with everyone we could.
Now knowing the interest I think next year I will look for a bit more elbow room as the last estimate of attendees was 80-90.
I have my eye on the next venue already and look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

Had a blast looking at pics and visiting with you, and I greatly appreciate you teaching me the proper way to prepare kale! :E Laugh:
Gina it is always nice to see you and @ActionBob. You are both such good people. Yes I think my kale recipe should be followed by everyone.

Looks like a good time was had by all. Congrats to the members who put the dinner together>>>
It was a nice informal gathering. Wish you could have joined us.

To fill everyone in on the back story, Gina and I arrived way early. We ordered a couple appetizers and then for her meal later Gina ordered a salad that was mostly Kale. Charlie was sitting across from us. I think it caused him pain or at least some level of discomfort to watch her eat that.... So he offered up his favorite way of preparing Kale;)

I'll let @CAustin tell you all his secret method:)
Thank you @ActionBob for the recipe intro. For those of you who don’t know about my background…..I was in the restaurant business for 35 years. After many failed attempts I finally happened upon the absolute best way to prepare kale. Take a cast iron skillet and coat the bottom and sides with liquid food release, critical as you don’t want the leafy kale to stick. You may use olive oil if preferred. Get the pan really hot and throw in some sea salt, garlic powder and if you like a little butter. Place your washed and dried
kale leaves in the center of the pan. Stir around quickly with a wooden spoon or spatula of your choice. After 30 seconds quickly remove the the hot pan from the burner and rake the kale into your disposal or trash can, now throw the pan back on the burner and put in a nice inch and a half ribeye. Cook to desired level and enjoy a truly great meal.
@Just Gina your the best!

@CAustin Now that is a kale recipe I could handle:ROFLMAO:
Thank you sir. I am convinced that the recipe is the absolute best way to prepare kale. On another note May I say it was most kind of you to organize the event.

@spike.t thank you for attending the AH event and for gifting me the ball cap. It was nice to put a face with the name. Best regards to you and a safe trip to your reserve when the water goes down.

Hope to see folks again next year!

So glad to finally meet you Gina and Bob…your roll of the eyes about the fully mounted rhino Bob has impressed my wife Leslie! Lol!!!
@Rare Breed
I am glad we got to meet and glad your lovely wife Leslie was there too! I try to be discreet about George the Rhino who takes up too much real estate in the living room, but the eye roll is an involuntary reaction…I think. :E Laugh: :unsure: Well, mayhaps not.:E Angel:

SCI Concludes its 2023 Annual Convention in Music City

sci-2023.jpg

Last week, Safari Club International hosted its 2023 annual convention, celebrating 51 years of protecting the freedom to hunt and promoting wildlife conservation worldwide. Whether it was the number of attendees who passed through the doors, the money raised to defend the freedom to hunt and promote conservation worldwide, the 853 exhibitors on the show floor, or the 140 countries represented, this landmark event, held at Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee, was record-breaking in every metric. We extend a huge thank you to our exhibitors, entertainment, award winners, and all attendees for joining our celebration of hunting and for making it the best Convention yet!

The show floor opened on Wednesday, with Tennessee Governor Bill Lee cutting the opening ceremony ribbon. Our world-class exhibitors set up booths in the convention hall to provide attendees with exceptional opportunities to book hunting trips in locales near and far. Some of the outdoor industry’s most recognizable companies showcased cutting-edge products, including firearms, accessories, optics, ammunition, archery, gear, and other tactical and hunting goods. Other notable vendors sold fine luxury goods like fur, furnishings, clothing, and jewelry.

Attendees who sought educational and informational sessions could attend presentations about hunting, fishing, shooting, and a myriad of additional outdoor activities. Seminars on everything from Wildlife and Property Management through Food Plots to The Hunter Chef’s Wild Game Cooking Demo were held each day of the Convention, and rooms were packed to hear community legends like Jim Shockey and Ramsay Russel speak. There really was something for everyone, at every turn!
Each evening, SCI held dinners and live auctions, which broke all existing fundraising records for SCI’s and SCI Foundation’s advocacy and conservation efforts, respectively. Convention attendees were able to listen to speakers such as Michelle Curran and Johnny Morris. Following these functions, entertainers, including the Frontmen & Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, Lee Brice, and Lynyrd Skynyrd performed for an enthused audience. Also, Fox News’ Katie Pavlich promoted women going hunting and stressed the importance of introducing hunting to new, younger generations. Another exciting event in the evening included Barstool Outdoors’ Host Sydnie Wells collaboration with SCI for a late-night celebration of young hunters. We were also joined by some of the biggest names in country music, hall of fame athletes and celebrity stars, ensuring that this convention once again lived up to the hype of what Forbes Magazine has called the “Super Bowl for the hunting world.”

What’s more, SCI executives presented prestigious awards to distinguished international guests and legislators in Washington, D.C., who are at the forefront of fighting for hunters’ rights abroad and here in the U.S. Especially notable honorees included Eduardo Bolsonaro, member of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, who was given this year’s International Legislator of the Year award, U.S Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), who received the prestigious Federal Legislator of the Year award and Governor Mike Dunleavy (AK) who received the Governor’s Award. We were also joined by honorable dignitaries from Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe and extend a special thank you to H.M. Rodney Sikumba, the Honorable Minister of Zambia’s Ministry of Tourism and H.E. Elsie Sia Kanza, the Tanzanian Ambassador to the U.S. for her attendance.

“I couldn’t be more excited about the setting of the SCI Convention, and to be in Nashville with my son JP,” said Johnny Morris, noted conservationist and founder of Bass Pro Shops, and winner of the prestigious Beretta and SCI Foundation Conservation Leadership Award in 2016. “It’s a vibrant community, a perfect place to bring together sportsmen and women of all ages, and celebrate our shared passions. We look forward to a bright future together.”

“On behalf of everyone at SCI, I would like to say thank you to all who attended and supported the SCI Convention and Ultimate Sportsmen’s Market here in Nashville, Tennessee,” said SCI CEO W. Laird Hamberlin. “Your attendance and steadfast support of this organization allows us to continue advocating for hunting freedoms in the U.S., and around the world. We look forward to seeing you all again next year for another fantastic SCI Convention.”

To those who were unable to attend this year’s celebration in Nashville, SCI is excited to announce the 2024 Convention will be held in Nashville, TN at the Music City Center from Wednesday, January 31st until Saturday, February 3rd, 2024. See you there!
