AfricaHunting Repository of Skills

Still headed toward the "Suppository of Skills" it would seem
It’s a good and noble endeavor Steve. For example, I’m not sure how many people here even have the context to appreciate the breadth and depth of Mark’s competitive shooting accomplishments.

I’ve been able to load regulate about a dozen double rifles, which is likely more than some here, as well a reload a number of the vintage British sporting cartridges others consider obsolete. I’m reluctant to post too much here broadly, as it can be exhausting with all the arguments etc. I’m happy to share more via a PM, or even better, a phone call etc.

I know quite a bit about taxidermy and hunting in Texas. I ALWAYS try to jump in on taxidermy threads for advice, as I'm sure most already know.

I'm also quite versed in the US federal criminal legal system.

Okay, so here's a dumb question from someone that's never owned a double.

It always seems like threads on this are trying to find the magic load, or tweak the gun to get the same POI. Could someone just make a "left barrel" and "right barrel" load as a cheat method? I assume the argument against that is it's field unfriendly though?

Toyota has mastered Hybrid tech over the last 25+ years. We now have Hybrid/Electrified options in almost every model line. The additional torque the system provides is a nice benefit and a few extra MPG doesn't hurt with high gas prices. Please note that I said a "few MPG". The hybrid system is flexible and in Camry, Prius, Corolla, etc. it is all about MPG. The Hybrids in the Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, 4Runner, Lexus LX700, etc. were designed to provide substantial extra power first and MPG gain second. As a side note, I always drive a Hybrid as a demo.

As for the Land Cruiser specifically, I personally love it. I have driven several as demos for extended periods of time. But, as an owner of one of our last 2021 V8 Heritage Edition Land Cruisers, I will provide one caveat. It should not be compared to the previous generation 200 Series Land Cruiser. They are dramatically different vehicles. The folks that understand that will be more than satisfied with the new LC. If the expectation is that it is somehow an advancement with the previous gen as the baseline, disappointment is likely. They couldn't be less alike. They're both winners serving different purposes.

I also agree with your wife on the Highlander. An additional Electric version of the Highlander would be great as a Tesla competitor but it is a mistake to discontinue the Gas/Hybrid Highlander. We cannot get enough of those currently.

That’s good info thank you. The different intentions of the hybrids in the different models makes sense now. Like a lot of people we compare models and scratch our heads on the disparity between MPGs.

We are dyed in the wool Toyota drivers. I drove an 02 Tundra for 23 years, drive a 21 Tundra now, my wife had. 2012 Highlander that my kid now drives and my wife drives a 24 RAV4 Hybrid. We love the hybrid but the ergonomics and comfort are not what my wife likes even in comparison to the 2012 Highlander. That’s why we were looking at the newer Highlander but they are hard to find and I think going all electric will only make that worse for the hybrids. We feel a tad stuck because of the changes.

I longed for a 21 Land Cruiser…but the Tundra made more sense at the time.

Not sure where you are but I'm happy to help any way I can. Even as a third base coach.

Midwest, The Sous Vide method feels like cheating it works so well. Another method of cheating is an outdoor Air fryer. Here are two whole beef tenderloins cooked whole. both simultaneously in the outdoor air fryer at last fall’s Grouse camp.

Similar to Sous Vide the temp is even throughout without overcooking.

Not invading Russia at all, for one. Charles XIV of Sweden, Napoleon, the Germans in WWI & WWII... the ability of the Russians to trade physical space in exchange for time and strategic depth is matchless. How far has an invader ever reached? Moscow. Not really even the Urals. The country is just too vast.

@steve white Practically speaking, what are the "up our game" tips you're looking to find?
I give you sir, the Mongol invasion of Kievan Rus resulting in the Battle of the River Kalka.

First degree is in history.

Yeah, it was a debacle. Poorly supplied and of course the government denied they were even there.

Oh, things like pistol shooting tips from Tanks
I'll have get a bigger hat. :ROFLMAO: Also, @Mark A Ouellette has a much better pedigree than I.

One thing I always say is if one wishes to learn something then hire a pro or attend classes. The best one I'd recommend is Ben Stoeger who is a multi-time national and world champion. He does hold group classes all around the country, and he also has private classes as well (though pricey).

I have applied that philosophy to a number of skills I wished to learn. When I wanted to be better at cooking I went to CIA (Culinary Institute of America) at Hyde Park, NY for a summer intensive. When I wanted to learn Argentine Tango I did research and found the best instructor, in my view, in Las Vegas. I was having him fly in for 10 hours of sessions on weekends for a number of years as well as practicing during the week.

Of course, just lessons alone will not do the job, you have to put in the sweat equity as well.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Thanks, Tanks.

Did NOT know that--hope he'll chime in!

If anyone ever has a question about a sick dog or cat, I’m your man. If you have a sick cow or goat then I can probably muddle thru. If it has feathers or you put a saddle on it, seek help elsewhere.

I’m a better student than teacher. That’s why I go to shooting schools and related events.

Otherwise, I laid pipe for 36 years…

Trying to convince myself that I am not at that point yet to be a an expert on Peaty whisky and Nicaraguan cigars as there is too many to try out. So I keep trying them and don't know if I will ever be happy to be called an expert.

Ok, I’ll bite. Good catch…. I overlooked the Mongol hordes. In my defense, as a freshly minted Modern Europe specialist, all the invasions mentioned came from the West towards the East.

Oh yeah that reference was totally obscure. Wrote a paper on the Battle at the River Kalka in a military history course in 1987 or so...

I have degrees in History, BAs in Political Science and Cyber Security, an MBA and a Master's in Data Analytics. I've been in the networking/software/cyber security gig for about 30 years now.

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.
