Those that have a 358 win usually keep them, those that don't have one usually want one.
Using Paco Kelly's loads it equals the Remington Whelen loads almost .
Don't listen to the nay sayers about it being a short range bush gun . Loaded with 225gn Sierra game kings it will shoot flat enough out to 300 yds. A nice 225fn or 250gn round nose will put a lot of hurt in a big animal.
@Rick HOlbert took his to Africa and had no problems on anything he shot. GRAB IT before it's to late

Well I had wanted to try a 358 and had wanted a blr for years. One from a family member came up for sale.
So I jumped on it.
When I tried it out a few times I liked it alot
Stated to see it hit about as hard if not harder than the 338 wm I had been using.
After awhile both 338 left the 358 blr sill here.
And I don’t see it going any place no time sone
And when it does leave me it’s all ready got a home my nephew wants it
Starting with a 350l and 357 he all ready has a liking for 35 cals

The 243 is a bastard related to the grand 358.
243 brass is useful tho because it can be necked up to 358.
If'n it wasn't for Muppets believing the bullshit gun writers about the 358 being only a short range brush cartridge it may have done better.
They need to get out from behind their typewriter and actually use one before they ridicule it
It was gun writer bullshit that made the 243 what it is. Even more Muppets believed it was good when in actual fact it's a POS.

Resurrecting an old thread...

I did not purchase that .358 for which I started this thread. But boy does it have a happy ending.

An old friend reached out today. He has a 99 in .358 that he wants to sell, and he contacted me because he wants someone to have it who appreciates 99s. Some of you know I am a staunch lever guy, and I took one of my 99s to Africa a few years ago. So after passing on that .358 bolt gun, I am now going to have the opportunity to own a 99 in .358 - and at a price I would be embarrassed to share. To say I am excited would be an understatement.

I do not have it yet and may not for a couple months. He's on the Kenai Peninsula and we plan to meet up in Anchorage then next time I pass through.
