Advice on Factory Regulation of Chapuis X4 in .30-06

I am trying to decide on the default regulation of the Chapuis X4 double rifle in .30-06 that we have started offering. I've polled some writers and they tend to gravitate towards the 180gr load. Retailers point more towards the 165-168gr range, with a few actually choosing the 150.

Which weight would *you* prefer that a 22" barreled, 6.8lbs double in .30-06 be regulated for? Naturally, it can be fairly easily re-regulated, but I would love your opinion on the matter. Please feel free to recommend specific brands and bullet designs.

Personally, I think a 180gr bullet would be ideal. With shots within 300 yards would be easily doable. Sighted in at 100 it would only be 14 inches low at 300. I prefer heavy for caliber bullets and think it would pair great with a double. If it were a bolt gun, 150gr. But being a double, 180gr. Barnes TTSX or Swift A Frames would be my choice on bullets. I would guess the Barnes will be more available and cheaper

If considering a monometal bullet, it will be long for weight, possibly requiring a faster twist rate to the barrel, in order to properly stabilize the bullet. I would then lean to 165 grain or less, especially since they benefit from speed tor reliable mushrooming. Bullet selection should be something that will be available long term and be effective, so my vote overall would go to the 165 gr. A-Frame.

Yea my 220 grain suggestion was partially in jest. 180 grains in a good bullet makes the most sense

I'd go with a 165-168 grain bullet.

A 30-06 is a great deer and elk rifle and I have never needed anything more than a 150 grain bullet for elk, but a 165 would give it a little bit more bullet for those who would like a heaver one.

Double sxs min 200gr better 220gr....simple leave the light for caliber bullets for the speed freak bolt action gang....
Shot many pac hippo with 220gr solids on land....
Get within range but have the max power from a sxs....
The 220gr will give you the best sd and killing ability....
SxS user are typically people who prefer to get close to game so I cannot understand the need for flat shooting light for caliber bullets in a sxs????
What distance will the regulation have to be???
165gr are for 308WM not 30-06......
200gr and 220gr will have you at the best killing spèed for Africa....

Let's also keep in mind that ANY double that takes optics can be used as a single-shot with whichever ammo groups well with the (mostly) right barrel. The use for this little '06 would be mostly for deer- or elk-sized game. Hence my dilemma between 180gr and 165-168gr loads

Then buy a single shot rifle with a scope not a sxs double.....

I’m envisioning this as a 150-200 yard rifle. We also offer the 9.3x74R version, which is regulated at 50 meters.

So regulation will be at about 175 yards otherwise the second barrel is pointless?

I think a 180gr bullet would optimize the .30-06. Won’t blow shoulders off deer/elk up close, & effective to 300yds without a lot of holdover.
