Does anyone know of hunters taking Aardwolf with archery equipment?
Jeff I could have in Botswana. Walk and stalk on a sleeping Aardwolf, but Eland was on the menu so he was left it to sleep.
Total chance encounter.
They’re mainly nocturnal so it would be tough. A call can stop them momentarily if they’re moving but have never had one actually come in fully for a call. Given their diet, not sure they would consistently come in for bait of any kind. It may be possible but it would be a chance encounter or just lucky to get within bow range at night.
Interestingly as was pointed out by one of our hunters who hunted one with us, there’s only two aardwolf listed in the SCI record book.
@Limpopo Big Game Safaris gets permits and on my first trip with Bossie we got to within about 10 feet of one. I took one on my last trip, saw 3.
I would say doable but far from guaranteed. Mine is in the states and at the tannery
I am so jealous. Congrats. Amazing accomplishment.
I’ve only seen one and that was while stalking an Oryx in Namibia. Took off about 10 feet in front of me in knee high grass and scared the crap out of me.
I booked a bowhunt for ardwolfe, serval and caracal and was sucessful for ardwolfe on the first night of hunting them, we got a large male and the outfitter said he didn't know of another one taken with archery. Will post a hunt report soon.
I want to hear about the Serval with a bow. That would interest me.
