An engraver is working on a German Silver stock oval which will match the coin finish action of my Simson Suhl .405 WCF.
The question is, where on the bottom of the butt stock does it go?
Before or behind the sling swivel?

It's up to you but I don't think I have ever seen one behind the swivel stud (i.e., between the stud and the recoil pad.)

With traditional stud placement like your rifle - definitely before.

Thanks gents - I agree with you.
The stock is with the stock maker that will inlet the oval and is not here to look at, but when I located the gun makers pic of it that showed the exact location of the stud, it was obvious that the oval should be placed forward, not rearward. :Shamefullyembarrased:

The only place I have ever seen them is before.

I look forward to seeing the finished results.

I have no experience to give you opinion on your question. But I must say that's a beautiful piece of wood.

So do I, and I plan to post pix when finished; likely some weeks from now.

Phoenix Phil - thanks for the compliment on the wood - it is an eye catching piece of work by Brian Dudley+ it fits and comes up on target every time.

Glorious ... and the oval in front of the stud, maybe one third of the way up to the pistol grip? Just my humble opinion, but I am a rank amateur ...

Geoff,
Thanks for the comment and suggestion - 1/3 sounds about right.

The oval is to have a single letter S as in this image of the shield on my old Parker 20 gauge (Old as in made in the year 1900).

Hope it turns out well and I will post a pic of it when the rifle come back home.

A decent match with the coin finish action.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
