A Plea For Common Sense & Proposal By Ron Thompson From TGA The Captive Regarding SA Breeding Lions

He makes a lot of compelling statements. His comparisons to other animals being okay to breed like nyala and sable while lion is not okay to breed is very good. The simple fact is the world is changing very fast. The anti-hunters are doing a terrific job of selling no hunting and letting nature take its coarse. They don’t paint the whole picture and really shelter people from reality. Most city people don’t want to hear the truth and can’t handle the true story. Emotional people want to be sheltered from reality.

Excellent points made in the letter. Pages 6-9 offer a look at the hypocrisy of SCI and DSC condemning CBL hunting.
My thoughts exactly. So we can release a 7 year old, hand fed, captive bred whitetail buck in August and hunt him in October but nooooo we cant hunt a lion that was captive bred! I am sorry but as much as I support and am a life member of most of these hunting organizations I must say they are hypocrites. The exact definition of hypocrites!

My life long dream since childhood is hunting a Wild Lion in Tanzania on a 21 day tented safari. If CBL hunting makes that impossible because of bans caused by negative publicity, then I'm going to be against CBL hunting it's as simple as that. However in theory if CBL hunting some how makes hunting a wild lion more affordable more accessible then I'd be all for it? But today the harsh reality is that CBL hunting has been such a lightning rod of negative publicity and a wedge issue dividing the hunting community I can't support it.

For me personally farm raised predators are just morally wrong. They are and should remain a symbol of the wild free wilderness where man is not the top of the food chain...That's just my personal values.

PS: (Note to PH's) I'm tapping my 401K next year eating the Federal Taxes and starting to plan my Wild Lion Hunt while there's still hope that I could bring my Lion Home!
Saying one animal is above another is discrimination. Your thoughts are exactly what has happened. Lions are on a pedestal other animals are peons.
The point some are missing is that this CBL debate is simply a cave to animal rightists. One step in the wrong direction. Period.

Yep

Very well written and points out some very compelling arguments. I, for one, don't condone "hunting" from a stand or blind. That's not hunting. That's ambushing and shows no skill, no woodcraft, no pitting oneself against quarry in a fair fight. However, the put and take seems to be more the norm today. As Ron so eloquently stated, nearly all hunting is within some kind of enclosure, some vast, some of rather small acreage.

I was unaware of the dart and measure practice but I can see where it plays. Read the blogs and ads about certain size trophies offered by some outfitters, It is very compelling to a prospective client to be "guaranteed" a superlative trophy. We all want the biggest and best but the only fair way to acquire it is to get out in the bush and sweat and bleed, put in some mileage and possibly come home empty handed.

Regardless of personal beliefs and feelings, we have to unite against our common enemy; the anti hunting, anti gun NGOs and their uninformed minions. They are employing the age old tactic of divide and conquer and they use it very effectively. Ron's piece showed it so well and public sentiment can be a powerful tool.
New boomer you are exactly right. It matters not our personal opinions on how we hunt! We must stand together.
