Hey all, need some help on this rifle. Found an elusive left handed model 70 in 375 H & H and a matching one in 458 WM. The action is described as a claw extractor vice controlled round feed. I am trying to get a Pic of the bolt face.
Does anyone have some knowledge on these models. Is it something reliable enough for dangerous game hunting.

I believe left-handed Winchester M70’s were only offered in the Classic series in the 1990’s. Basically the return the the pre-64 style of controlled round feed. There was also the transitory controlled round push feed models, but I don’t think they made them in left hand.

Thanks, the add did mention controlled round push feed which makes no sense to me. If it is a controlled round push feed action is that reliable enough or something to stay away from.

Get pictures and see if it has the extractor running along the bolt and raceway. Left hand models were made from 95ish to 2006ish all CRF. And yes DG reliable but may need some action and feeding work, dependent upon bullet choice and OAL. If they are +/- 1500$, and condition to match, I’d not hesitate to buy and customize to my specs. Especially if the 375 is magnum length action.

Controlled Round Push Feed is basically a push feed bolt with the bottom ring of the bolt face cut out so the rim can slide up the bolt face and under a small extractor that is the same size as the push feed models. It does not have the classic long/large claw extractor famous on Mausers or CRF Model 70's. ejection is by a blade versus a button.

Essentially Winchester made a hybrid that was easy to make but claim the controlled round feature. I would not buy one, but that is me.

Can't find a serial number on the pics to determine year of production but he is describing it as an early claw feed circa 1990. Barrel shows it as a classic super express if that helps, still waiting on pic of bolt face. He is asking $2995 for each rifle.

Here is a good pic to show the different styles:

Post #2 is correct. You’ll pay $2500-$3000 for one that’s a H&H length and unmolested. There are no more of them being made. I read that someone pretty high up at USRAC (head engineer?) was a lefty and that’s the only reason those got built. The market share for lefties is tiny and not profitable.

If it has ‘Classic’ on the barrel then you are golden- CRF and a fine left handed action. I have a Classic Sporter and Classic Stainless and both are CRF actions.

Correct. Adding “classic” was a sign they reverted to the true CRF design. I have three.

i have two of those crf left hand winchesters, blue-wood-no sights in 7mm rem mag and a 300 win mag, good shooters. second and third rifles down are the winchesters.

That’s a true long, rotating-extractor controlled round feed (but not pre-64) Winchester. Good to go from my perspective.
Yep, like all crf M70’s were intended

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
