Hi all. I acuired a 6mm musgrave rifle in very good conditiion. Do anyone have experience with the 90gr cx Hornady bullet in the 6mm caliber. To what speed can i push the 90gr in the 6mm musgrave.

@Raptor That's a great looking rifle. Congratulations.
I had a 6mm Musgrave in South Africa, but haven't seen anyone on this side. Great find.
Can't help you with the bullets though as I shot the only available factory load in SA, 100 grain PMP cup and core.

I shoot the 90 CX in my 6 creed. It is a good bullet.

Hornady says it won't stabilize in anything less than a 1-8" twist. I've no idea what twist rates your rifle has, but most older rifles in the same diameter are rifled 1-10" or 1-12".

The 80 grain CX is said to stabilize in a 1-10" twist.

The 90gr Hornady CX is a solid pick for the 6mm Musgrave. It's a tough monolithic that penetrates well on game.

Real world loads in similar 6mm cartridges and published Musgrave data get you 2,900–3,050 fps from a 22-24" barrel with good powders H4350, RL16, etc.. You can push it safely into the low 3,000s with careful work up, but don't chase max pressure signs matter.

The rifle has a 1/10 twist. So we'll see if they group. The rifle has a 24inch barrel. If it groups, anything from 2800 to 2900 will do. Want to build an accurate load. Thanks for the advice.

I have used the 90gr CX in my 6mm Creedmoor for hunting in South Africa. It is accurate in my rifle (Howa with 1in 7.5" twist) at ±2900fps and performs well on game up to red hartebeest and black wildebeest. However, I doubt if it will stabilise in a 1 in 10" twist.

The bullet below was recovered from a blesbuck shot at ±300m. The blesbuck was angling away from the shot, the bullet entered behind the ribcage and was recovered in front of the opposite shoulder.

The 90gr CX is a long bullet. From left: 87gr Hornady Vmax, an expanded 90gr CX and a 90gr CX.

This will give you an idea of what it will do in your rifle.
If it was my rifle I would run my epps improved reamer into it and you would be able to push that bullet to over 3,500fps.
Another good bullet that's very underrated in the 6mm ( notice I didn't say 243) is the 95 gn Hornady SST.

Looks like your 6mm Musgrave is built in an SMLE NO1Mk111 so you will have to keep pressure down a lot lower than a front locking P14.
You may not be able to push. Mono bullet fast enough to be effective because your velocity will be around 2,600-2700 fps. Personally I would use a 95gn SST for a more remit killer

I want a good penetrating bullet. It is 90gr cx or similer copper bullet or a good 100gr like a nosler partition
@Raptor
The Hornady 95gn SST will give you all the penetration you can use at the speeds you will get out of your SMLE. If you want more I would forget the 90 gn CX and go for the 80gn TTSX.. You will be able to get that close to 3,000fos in your SMLE and get far better performance than the slower 90.
At the velocities you will get I wouldn't waste money in copper bullet as the old cup and core work perfectly in your velocity parameters.
Copper loves speed the faster the better.
If it was on a P14 Enfield it would be a different story.
