What don't you understand about "joke".

"And you might want to meet another guy or two." You are the guy writing that on all the washroom stalls?
OMG you are so funny. My apologies. I simply hadn't fully appreciated the subtleness of your humor.

Here’s a little excerpt from a Bob Mitchell in Canada.

What the .375 H&H will do with a 300gr, the 9.3 x 62 will do from a 286gr, and both have the same SD. But the heavier you go the closer they get!

A 300gr from the 9.3 x 62 in a 22.5″ modern rifle will do 2550 fps/ 4331 ft-lbs at 64,000 PSI. From a 320gr it will make 2460 fps/ 4300 ft-lbs at the muzzle. A 286gr NP from mine (22.4″ barrel) makes 2630 fps/4392 ft-lbs quite easily. RL-17 is used in all those loads.

Many experienced PH’s and hunters of each have testified that they have discerned no difference in their effect on mega fauna.

- Bob Mitchell

Bob’s rifle, a Tikka T3X Lite, with a 22.4 inch barrel.

Googled Bob Mitchell. He likes the 458 win in his blog too. I didn't know who he was until now I think .

I can't imagine reloading for the 9.3 would be much cheaper than the 375 H&H.

I purchased a Belgium Browning safari Mauser 375 H&H that I only paid $1000 Canadian. A wonderful rifle.

Zastava has 375 H&H for much less brand new.

I personally wouldn't take bobs push feed tikka on a dangerous game hunt no matter what it was chambered in.

If you are purely looking to load up the 9.3x62 to the original 375H&H ballistics, yes it is possible.

The real question is why? If you are already reloading, why not download the 375H&H to whatever recoil level is tolerable for you or whatever performance level (speed, energy or trajectory) you desire. There is no replacement for displacement, the 375 will always be the bigger of the two and give more flexibility throughout the range.

Same as why would you upload the 375H&H to achieve the performance of a 416? If you are looking for 416 performance, just start with a 416 and go from there. There is no free lunch. Benefits in one area means a compromise someplace else.
This!
I'm going to do this very thing! My old shoulder doesn't like recoil like it used to! Loading the .375 down to factory 9.3X62 factory levels seems a sensible option!

If you read long enough, Bob does like the .458, but he doesn’t like the recoil that it generates.
When he found a really good 9.3x62, he decided to go with that as his main weapon, and even stoked to higher velocities, doesn’t generate the amount of free recoil that does. Plus, to him, the 9.3x62 kills as fast, if not faster.
Bob also likes the .375 H&H, but since he lives in North British Columbia, Canada, he went with his less expensive reloading option of the 9.3x62mm.
Bob hasn’t done much African hunting, and the majority of his hunting is in North America. Therefore he chose the Tikka T3.

Someone did a test a while back, and found that a push feed does just as well as a control round feed when in hurried situations.
Now, in a hurried situation, something did come up about short stroking a CRF rifle, and found that if you don’t pull all the way back, you just might jam the rifle, or even yet, not catch the rim to feed a round. Same will happen with a push feed, if a long enough stroke isn’t done.

Or you can just chamber your 9.3 x62 to a real 9.3 x 70 caliber and still outshoot the .375 H&H Magnum without blowing yourself up in the process..

Parent case is the 404 Jeffery .
There are only two hunting rifles in this caliber I know of :
Herman Goering `s double rifle
Belgium gunsmith build his own rifle.

I will also add to this thread:

Having never seen an elephant in the wild and never hunted one... I will emphatically state that the .45-70 with 160 grain monometal bullets at 4,750fps from a 14" barreled Marlin lever gun is JUST as good as a .600 nitro express and easily out-penetrates a 40mm bofors cannon. If you say otherwise, you are just a rich snob would can't deal with the hoi polloi's capability of killing pachyderms with their cheap leverguns!

MORE POPCORN!!

Let me get this straight, you are comparing a 160 gr, .45 gr slug at 4,570 fps to a .600 NE? Do you use cocaine instead of salt on your popcorn?

You sir, appear to be aspiring to a Darwin Award.

Haha I don't even own a .45-70. I was hoping the ridiculousness of my post would make it obvious that I was satirizing what some armchair great white hunters in other places on the internet post matter-of-factly, while making similarly ludicrous claims about their Marlin 1895...

I was being facetious because this thread was going to elicit similar reactions from some people.

All in good fun. Carry on with the conversation. I am all out of popcorn though...

What powder are you using to get 4,750fps out of your rifle. Those 160gn monos must be dam short. Any pictures of them.

@ChrisG
Mate do you think they would make a hollow point mono at 100gn in 35 cal. I figure using some of that powder you use a should be able to crack the magic 5,000fps mark.
No need to worry about the bc with that velocity. Would make a dandy long range deer rifle with low recoil.

I fully agree!!

I would like to accomplish that myself!

Hawk
I do not have a 9.3x62, but it definitely seems a cartridge with lots of merit and longevity. It would seem a great North American game sized animals, specifically bear & moose. Most obviously it has worked well on lots of African animals with nasty attitudes.

I would think a premium 250 grain expanding bullet at 2400 fps would still be an excellent moose / bear rifle. It would be plenty “flat-shooting” out to 200 yards for me.

A re-bore of an existing 30-06 type with appropriate barrel thickness seems to be an economical conversion. And in my opinion, on larger game, ups the effectiveness of this size brass.

I'd evaluate how you intend to use the rifle in the future. If you are OK with MOA to 1.5 MOA accuracy, then a rebore should be fine. If you are looking for sub-MOA, you may want to consider spending the extra money and having a new barrel installed. Plus with a rebarrel, it will typically take less time at the gunsmith.

This ^^^^^^

Rebarrel it, don't rebore it.

14 twist is normal, but a 12 twist seems to add 50-75 fps over what you can get out of a 14. Not a big deal either way. I'd go after anything except ele with A Frame 286 or Oryx 285 in my 14 twist rifle, both at around 2350.
