9.3x62 ammo choice

What’s up everyone. I just got a Sauer 100 field ethos in 9.3x62 and I’m taking it to South Africa in May to hunt plains game. Who has experience with this round and maybe this rifle and what bullet are you shooting?
Greetings cooluss,
Sauer 100 excellent weapon. Everything works the same as the more expensive models of this manufacturer. I used several pieces in hunting and shot a lot of them. As for ammunition, I could recommend Rws Hit 16.2g. Also, Geco Plus 16.2g is good. Both bullets have a high bc, if that means anything to you. PPU SP 18.5g is cheaper and will do the job well, but not for longer distances. If you shoot in plains at longer distances, Rws Hit will replace the resistance of a large caliber and you will have a straight trajectory. The barrel has a 1:14 twist and will handle this bullets well. Norma Oryx is standard good, but it is heavy and does not have a high bc.
A picture of shooting one, I don't remember what caliber it is. I broke a brake pin on one, so pay attention to that detail. I wish you a successful hunt in May

Norma 286g oryx it won't let you down i shot everything from.impala to eland with hand loads doing 2350 fps. Deverstating.

i am using 286 gr a frames, i am using CFE 223 getting 2500 fps. north forks would also be a great choice. very shootable and accurate.

A fellow on another forum used the 285/6 gr. Hornady from a tree stand on a buck deer. Hit the deer in the spine and the bullet stopped there in pieces. Killed the deer, but he thought, like the Speer, 270gr. it's not a bullet you can trust for deeper penetration.
There are too many good bullets, ie: Norma and Nosler to use. I suspect the RWS TUG 293gr. is also a good bullet for PG as shown by a French hunter on another forum. My 9.3x57 drove that one at 2,100fps and shot just under an inch at 100 meters.

Coolus,I forgot to mention that the bolt on the Sauer 100 can be turned upside down. You can put it in, but you can't take it out. You have to disassemble the whole weapon and remove the trigger to pull the bolt. This happened to me with one client, so I had to dismantle the entire rifle in the hunting lodge

OOh! that is disturbing! Embarrassing for Sauer, and tough on clumsy clients!
I am another who would vote for the Norma Oryx 286 gr. I have used it with perfect satisfaction on Kudu, Oryx, and even Giraffe.

I am nothing more than an average shot. Look what a Rigby Highland Stalker in 9.3x62 shooting hand loaded Barnes TSX 286 grain with 57.5 grains of Big Game Powder does with 3 shots off sticks at 100 yards…all 3 shots almost in the same hole

I wonder how you would shoot if you were a good shooter, if this is bad for you? …

a good bullet is the ones offered by Buffalo Bore they offer a 250 gr Barnes TSX at 2650 fps and I understand they are now offering a 286 Hornady load at 2450FPS. I have great accuracy with the 250 TSX in my Sauer 100.

250 accubond would be great for your PG hunt

Make sure you shoot the rifle a lot before the hunt, my Sauer 100 in 9.3x62 would drop the mag every so often while shooting… don’t want that happening on a hunt. Sold it

I’m sure I just had a lemon but be sure your rifle is good to go before your African safari.
Need to be careful taking a brand new rifle on an important hunt. Find all the kinks before the trip.

Cheers

I use Nosler 9.3x62 250 gr. and 285 gr. ammo on plains game with no problem. That said, shots are all within 275 yds.

I use both 250gr and 286gr on my plains animals.

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark
