Most of us agree 100%.

To be fair though, that's exactly what it was intended for. Large, heavy game at extended ranges, not Dangerous Game.

I would say over 95% of game I've shot was 200 or less usually much less. Even the 375 is capable at that range. Dang I would happily use my Whelen with 225gn projectiles like the accubond or Woodleigh out to 400 where it still has more than enough energy (2,000fpe) and still leave your hat on your head. To me there's no need to get beat up by an expensive magnum you might require once in a lifetime.
I'm not overly recoil sensitive but just don't see the point.

I have only been to Africa 2X, both times with a Tikka 7mm RM. First trip, I used the exact same bullet you are shooting, Barnes 160s factory loads. The second time was using Barnes 168 LRX bullets. I shot 2 Kudu, Blue Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Sable, Zebra twice, and all the usual game. Everything died with one shot except a Zebra that moved as I fired, and it needed a second shot (my fault). I actually think the 160s did better than the 168s, but both performed beautifully. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot an Eland with it either.

As the title implies, what are your thoughts on 7mm Rem Mag for use on Eland?

I've used 160gr Barnes TSX (~2950fps) with great success on multiple plains game species (warthog, blue wildebeest, zebra, blesbuck, impala, kudu) during my first trip to Africa, as well as on North American game (whitetail and wild hogs) and Axis deer in Hawaii. While hunting in Africa, my PH (who told me he was lukewarm to the cartridge at the beginning of our hunt) commented on more than one shot occasion how hard the round was hitting the animals. Obviously "hard-hitting" is more of a colloquial description than an actual unit of measure, but he was clearly impressed with the performance. So much so, in fact, that he jokingly remarked that he "wouldn't hesitate to use it on buffalo". No need to discuss the merits of that remark, he was just making a point haha...

It may be worth noting that zero bullets were recovered from any of our African animals, all shots resulted in full pass-through. Including a shoulder shot on a VERY round zebra that my wife harvested.

A "proper" eland is at the top of my list for my next hunt and I was just curious what the consensus was for applying that same rifle/cartridge combination to the situation. What say you?

During my lengthy career as a PH in Africa I have had the opportunity in using a vast array of available calibers to shoot a variety of game including Eland and Buffalo and the 7 Rem Mag does the job provided the pill is directed either at the boiler room or, if you are conversant with anatomy the neck shot will floor it on the spot only requiring a finisher to end its misery. This caliber however is not legally permitted for DG or big bodied antelope unless the hunt is conducted on private property.

7mm rem mag works but when i get an Eland will be hunting bigger stuff so probably my 404 j.....
