7mm 175 Partition or Sierra Gameking

Seven one shot kills on plains game in South Africa with Sierra gameking bullets. The last moose hunting I have done has been with Swift A Frames. They are a great bullet.

In my 30-06 Sierras have worked great on pronghorn antelope to mule deer, but on elk and African PG Nosler is better and A-frames would improve on them if your gun shoots them well IMO and experiences.

When I was 16 years old (44 years ago) I loaded up some Nosler Partitions and Sierra bullets in my 7mm Remington Magnum and went out and shot wet newsprint at the local gravel pit.

All the Partitions looked the same...expanded back to the partition. They all went about the same depth..

All the Sierras looked the same, too. Core in pieces, jacket split back about 75% of the way to the base...and penetration was about 60% of the Partition if my memory serves.

I never could get myself to hunt game with a Sierra after that. Oh, I knew they'd kill stuff great with the classic broadside through the ribs shot. It was all the other possible shots that scared me off!

I do have a few hundred Sierra 180gr RN .308 bullets loaded up for practice rounds...the bullets were on sale and I couldn't resist (they are purdy though!).

Sierra Gameking are excellent hunting bullets. Be sure to select the appropriate bullet profile and weight for your application. Surprisingly, the hollow point Gamekings are engineered to be “harder” than the soft points, for use at higher velocity on bigger animals. Nosler Partition is a well proven bullet and always a good choice. Most of my limited hunting experience is in whitetail deer.

a white tailed deer would not be the yardstick that i would use to measure bullet performance. a soft, violently expanding bullet works well on them, and they don't run off far so the neighbor wont put a bullet in a deer you shot.

sierra bullets could be better, unfortunately they are not. that is a choice made by sierra unfortunately. will they work, yup, so will any other cup and core bullet in 25 cal or larger (on a white tail). they don't do great work on tough angles though so pick your shots carefully. been there, done that (with sierras) got the t shirt.

^^^ Yes do not pick a bullet that works under the best conditions but pick one that will work under the worse conditions. Like a Swift bullet or a Nosler PAR or a Barnes TTSX or LRX and I like them in that order

Yes, absolutely agree with that idea! Hope for the best, PLAN to handle the worst.

I use gamekings in my 308. The 165gr creates a perfect mushroom and retains weight tremendously at the 308 velocity.

That being said, I also have a 7mag and know what it's speed does to 150gr cup/core - likely have several exit holes from the shrapnel but my my the damage it does. Now that being said, the gamekings are tough for a cup/core bullet and you are wanting to use the 175's.

I think it would be absolutely fine for things like black wildebeest and hartebeest. You get into the bigger game and then I might begin to question. I think they would likely be fine, but I would probably still use a partition or Norma Oryx to be on the safe

I killed a lot of deer n pronghorn with Game King and it put a big hole coming out..Kills light game quickly..Had one splatter on a deer shoulder...Are accurate..Caribou in pic was taken with a 200 grain Sierra in 300Win..One shot on it and wife took a big black bear with same and one shot..Just make sure it hits 'em right to start...

I agree, the Game King kills quickly on deer and pronghorn. I hunt with three people who use 165gr Game Kings in ‘06 and .308W for everything. I’ve shot deer, pronghorn and one wild pig with 130gr in my .270. BUT, from personal knowledge from my hunting buddies shots, they are marginal for game the size of elk and moose, when distance or quartering shots are taken. They tend to “blow up” when hitting bone. I use 225gr Remington Core Lokts in my .338WM for elk. I believe the bullet jacket is thicker than the Sierras? Yeah I know, it’s not a “premium” bullet, but the elk I have shot with them didn’t know that and didn’t complain! If I owned a 7mm, I would use the 175gr Core Lokts or the Partition bullets?
