Has anyone here on AH owned these boots? I've got a friend who owns them and they caught my eye. He swears by them but isn't really a hunter and I wanted opinions of hunters. I tried a pair on last night at a 5.11 store, and was impressed at how comfortable they were.

Hi @PHOENIX PHIL! Which model? They make a couple of dozen. I have a pair of Ranger Mid height. I don’t care for them. The upper is too thickly padded for me.

I have a few pair and I love them.

My wife used to be a 5.11 ambassador so I used to get their stuff at a great rate.

Have hunted with them on many occasions and found them comfortable, warm and very water resistant. I have large calves, so I always buy the ones with the zipper to get in and out easier.

I have a pair of 5.11 8" ATAC boots.

They did have some issues with the soles starting to seperate after about a year.

I did some DIY repairs with Shoe Goo and they have been very durable since, probably over four years old now.

Unfortunately they have disconitued the 'normal' variant and only do a side zip version now, which Idon't care for.

It seems hard to find a non Goretex lightweight boot nowadays.

Try GoRucks boots. Their MAC-V boots are non-Goretex, lightweight and comfortable. Jim Green makes great boots too. I’m planning on buying a pair of their moc toe boots at the show in Nashville.

Thanks Doug - will give them a look. (y)

I am on my second pair of these 5.11 boots. I use them for my morning walk abouts here in Colombia. I am very happy with them. Can’t use them in Texoma because the canvas gets pierced easily by cactus and mesquite thorns.

Happy Christmas and Safe Shooting

These are the ones I tried on. Personally I like the zipper. Easier on my foot that I had ankle fusion surgery on last May.

I have a pair that I wore while metal detecting for gold in Arizona. No metal in them to give you false readings. And they are fairly cactus proof and wear well. Very comfortable to boot.... ;-) I'm sorry I don't know the model number and the VA has them right now modifying the lift in the left one. Leg length changed with hip replacement. But that's a very long story.

I had a pair or two in the 8" that I wore as duty boots while working in prisons. They were fine for working on concrete floors, but I really didn't consider them as hunting boots. They would certainly be to stiff and loud for Africa.

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
