460 Weatherby, Ryan Breeding

Yes, the 460 is extremely versatile. Shoot 300gr at 2700 and alot on between to 600gr at 2450.

My choice as it has same POI is 500 gr at 2500 for both solid and soft. I've said here before, the 460 gets a bad rap from either inexperience, ignorance, or the Mark V/brake. A well fitted rifle and experienced big bore shooter fields a very formidable rifle. Certainly the most versatile of any of the 458 chamberings.
I haven't shot anything but factory in mine yet but 300 gr at 2700 is a pretty light load isn't it?

Very light bullets often don't shoot very accurately in some rifles caliber 460 Weatherby Magnum because many barrels have a longer throat. The lightest bullets I have loaded and used for hunting weighed 450gr. The best bullets for these cartridge remain in my opinion the 500 grain bullets, but I have no experience with heavier bullets. A one more reason why longer barrels are better suited.

Another case in point .. are photos:

Photo Shop vs a simple Cell Pic:
to me, a simple indoor/outdoor cell pic can really make a difference (for the better, imo). Or shed new light.

I haven't shot any 300s thru mine, but follow some guys who have worked up the loads. I personally have no reason to shoot sub 450 as @grand veneur has mentioned.

That said, with 500gr at 2500fps I have a 100yd zero with ~5" drop to 200yds with soft and solid hitting on top of each other. I would like to get some 600gr'rs just to play with though if I can find some old barnes....

I never tried loading heavier bullets than 500gr because this bullets still give the cartridge 460 Weatherby Magnum very good external ballistics. This allows shooting with these cartridge at somewhat longer distances in extreme situations by maintaining a sufficient impact velocity. In all cases it allows the cartridges to be used for hunting game other than DG, if you only have this rifle available.

Allow me to be frank. Ridiculous rifle in an even more ridiculous barrel length. With the muzzle brake it would be like standing next to a Panzer Mark 6 (that is a Tiger 88mm) when it fires.
@Red Leg That's an unfair comparison, there is no way an 88mm would produce as much blast as a 460 Weatherby with an 18" barrel and a muzzle brake
