I don’t know anything about hunting elephant other than you need a large rifle.
So, what is meant by the “40lbs” part of this ad/hunt?

tusk weight 1

Good evening
Leftysixgun, the 40 pounds refer to the weight of the tusks. The quota that we receive in the open system in South Africa is determent by weight classes namely 25, 30, 40 and 55 pounds.
daawg1963 this area has probably one of the highest population of elephants in Africa and the success rate is very high.

So to clarify, Is the 40lbs the Upper limit for the tag or the Lower limit for the permit?

As in you can shoot a bull UP TO 40lbs?

Or you can shoot a bull Over 40lbs (but under the next level 55)?

And of course I understand there is a 10% guesstimate on ivory "live" weights due to nerve, etc.

Thanks

Good day wildwilderness
When hunting a 40 pounder you can go up to 44 pounds but not over that. The extra 4 pounds is the 10% margin that they allow you. Hope that makes sense.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
Gents, if you book and pay your deposit before the end of this year , you can have the bigger cull package for the 2026 price! https://www.africahunting.com/threa...griffiths-safaris-starting-at-us-2-560.96285/
