Hi, needs some rookie advice. How do load 3 in the mag and one in the chamber? Do you need to take the bolt out? I think i am missing something.
Not sure about your rifle, but with my model 70 .300 win mag, I put 3 in the chamber, push down on the top round while advancing the bolt slightly so the bolt doesn't pick it up, and then slide a 4th round into the chamber.
Can't you push the fourth round down just far enough that the bolt will pick it up as you slide it closed?.....if not then chamber one and open mag floor plate and load others that way....but usually it works how I said in first place
Buy a Brno ZKK 602, 5 in the mag and one in the chamber... Otherwise as Spike t said, fill the mag, load the fourth on top, push down on the back and slowly push forward making sure the extractor slips over the rim before closing bolt.
Ok, thank you. Tried it with other ammo and got it right. It seems my 235gr reloads are a bit to long, so bottom one does not go down all the way in the magazine box, that is why i couldn't get it right.
if you can snap the extractor over the rim of a chambered round, it is not a true controlled round feed. why do you need more than 3 anyway? sometimes it is good to have a loaded mag but an empty chamber. bruce.
You’d think but the extra effort required to close that bolt is not high and manufactures operating manual describes the procedure and does not warn against it.
why bother even trying to find out? if you need more than 3 shots, you should be on the range and not in the field. or you need a bigger gun. bruce.
I have four of them. With careful testing I have found that 2 will and 2 will not. My conclusion is that it is putting a lot of stress on the extractor and the last thing I need is a broken extractor in the field. I don’t do it.
Nobody was saying snap the extractor over the rim.....holding down the round and slowly pushing the bolt closed allows the rim to slide up into position the same as loading normally.....
I was saying that. As per page 17 of this manual: http://www.winchesterguns.com/content/dam/winchester-repeating-arms/support/owners-manuals/2019/17-WRA-424_Model 70_SR_OM_WEB.pdf
I own a pre war model 70 in .375 H&H Magnum . It holds 4 in the magazine . For a long time , l didn't know how l could get a fifth in the chamber. Then forum Member , Ray B taught me what to do. Yours seemingly holds 3 in the magazine ( 1 less than mine ) so follow this : The trick is : first load 3 in the magazine and then put the fourth over the three and push down . It will not go far enough to click into place , but enough for you to push the bolt forward and chamber it . That should work . I was also told by a gunsmith that some model 70s can be topped off if you have the extractors opened up.
