.375H&H 25” Barrel cut to 23” - chronograph results

Short handy rifles are great. I have a 7mm/08 and a 338RCM, both with 22" bbls. One of the PH's who backed me up on buffalo carried an old CZ/Brno 458wm that was cut down to 20". We were in thick heavy thorn thickets, so dense that we could smell the buffalo, hear them but no see them and frankly, I wanted his rifle at that moment. my 26" 375 is great but is loong.

Hi,

To me, more than the barrel lenght itself, the thing is the balance or, better said, the weight distribution. I want the weight of all my rifles "between the hands". Neither front heavy or ligth.
Because this, I cut 2" off the 25" original barrel of my M70 pre 64 375. The rifle was not a collectible one. Was well used, but sound, with a very good barrel when I got it. End with a 23" rifle much more balanced to me after cut only 2"! The velocity loss was less than 50 f/s. Great

You know that a single shot rifle can be reloaded, right? Not much slower than a bolt action can be cycled... I generally bring more than one cartridge with me when I hunt.
I sometimes hunt with a single shot. I carry two more rounds in an elastic band on my wrist. You will just have to trust me on this. Reloading a single shot is much slower than cycling a bolt. Much slower. I would not use one for dangerous game.

I have been hunting with both falling block singles and bolt actions for going on a half century... I know how fast they both can be loaded/cycled. As for singles on DG, nobody brought it up until you did... the statement was single shots on "big game." To each their own, but beware the man in a long beard and Mackinaw coat strolling along with a single shot rifle draped over his arm.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
