I want to work up a load for my 375ruger. I am using 300gr barnes TSX and Win 760 powder. Barnes says
71.5 to 78.5 grains for this powder and bullet. Any one have any thoughts on this?

Too many variables to answer this. Start low and work your way up. With TSX pay attention to bullet depth seating.

I usually work up to find pressure in about 0.5gr increments, watching velocity as compared to load data, but I did a 338 Win Mag load the other day with 210gr TTSX and just tried out five of the lowest charge. They were touching at 100 yards, and going a bit over 2700, so that was the end of load development for that rifle.
Edit, point of this is that it depends if you're needing extra power out of that or not. If you are ok with 2,437 fps, then just start there with 5-10 rounds and see how they do. If you need to go for as fast a possible, then do the pressure eval.

Also just ran this through QuickLoad and I would definitely start at the low end working up on this.

I'm going to echo the "start low and work up". I have never used 760 as RL17 is pretty much the king for the .375 H&H/Ruger. That said, I don't chase half inch groups or max velocity with mine. I just find a middle-of-the-road load that doesn't beat the gun up and expands out to my maximum shooting range. The .375 will kill game really well even at reduced load.

I think you meant RL15, not 17. 70.0 grains of RL15 and a 300 grain bullet is a pretty common load for an H&H. I imagine it’d be pretty close for the Ruger as well.

No, I meant RL17.it is one of the beat powders for both. I have owned both and RL 17 is a beautiful powder for them. In the H&H it could push a 300 trainer to almost 2700fps and a 250 to near 3000 for elk. In the Ruger is does pretty similar with about 80 grains

Barnes recommended hodgdon 100V as most accurate powder in 375ruger. My Shilen select match barrel loves it in 375ruger caliber.

I just learned something, thanks. I need to try RL17 now! I’ve never used any powder except RL15, both in my 375 & 416.

Can you refer me to a reloading book where you got the loads for RE 17?
Thanks

Yes! Actually, all you have to do is request the data from Alliant direct. Send them an email and they will give you the load data they have developed. That's where I got it from. Hope that helps!

The only downside is that Alliant powders used to be some of the most inexpensive powders going, now they are one of the most expensive. At least near me

Did as suggested

I think I have my load. 76gr Win760 with 300gr barnes TSX. The string on the left are mr adjusting scope. The 2 in the middle are final shots at 100 yd. Should be good for Buffalo

Do you know the velocity you’re getting with that load? It shoots very well for you. You’ve got a great cartridge and bullet, now go enjoy a buffalo hunt!

Emailed Alliant for Re17 info with the 375 HH and the response was they do not furnish data that is the bullet manufacturers responsibility.
Was quite surprised but that is what their Email said. No help from Alliant, guess they are not interested in selling powders.

I can forward the email they sent me

I have a T/C Contender carbine in the .375 Win chambering. My findings have been the Hodgdon H322 and H335 powders, CCI 200 primers and W-W brass have performed best with both Hornady and Speer bullets. I use the pointed tipped bullets, but RN's or FN's of equal weight should be somewhere near these figures for initial muzzle velocity.

Hornady 235 FBSP, 39.7 gr H322 = 2250 fps

Speer 235 FBSP, 41.0 gr H335 = 2190 fps

Christopher,

Below is the load data that I have for the 375 H&H cartridge using Alliant Reloder 17 propellant:

Powder Bullet Brand Weight OAL Primer Brass Status Charge wt (gr) Velocity (ft/sec)

Reloder 17 Nosler 260gr Accubond3.580 215 Fed 81.5 2711
Reloder 17 Hornady 270gr JSP 3.580 215 Fed 85.0 2826
Reloder 17 Hornady 300gr JSP 3.580 215 Fed 81.8 2685
Reloder 17 Nosler 300gr Partition 3.560 215 Fed 83.0 2687

Hope this is of assistance.
Thanks,
Shoot Straight

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
