1969 FJ 40 Restoration

Beautiful! Color me jealous!

Super nice! Looks like the original three-speed?

It is indeed. I couldn’t bring myself to convert it. I learned to drive with a three on the tree.

Excellent :D Beers:

That one looks nice, from memory the colour was sandy taupe( at least it was over here) the v8conversion was practically a straight swap with right hand drive versions, just different engine mounts and hoses.
I had a 1963 FJ40, it was light blue and white, I had dreams of restoring it but children came along, needed money and the wife refused to drive it as it had no seatbelts and she couldn’t (wouldn’t) cope with the non-synchro first gear. Her whinging mother didn’t help"it’s not a real car, you can’t put children in it" all done in a whiney pommy accent

Looking good just missing a deer on the bonnet and a rifle rack at the back;)

It’s gettin a quick access but lockable
AR mount behind the drivers seat. Working through the details now.

Just noticed the free wheeling hubs, were they on the US models from factory? Originally they were constant 4WD here and Warn hubs were fitted as an aftermarket modification

They were standard. This one has a vacuum system for engaging the four wheel drive. Seems to work great. My seventy one had manual linkage for operating the transfer case.

Very clean and best thing about it, you don't have to drive around with rubber ducks on your dashboard!

I love my rubber ducks! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside saying to me “your good enough, your smart enough, and dog-gone it, people like you!”

You've done a fine job on that one, for sure. Lots of good memories of fun times with the Fj 40 (and the Fj43). I think I should send you my Flat fender PowerWagon, as I'm never gonna get it done in this lifetime........keep up the great work...........FWB

The locking hubs were a popular dealer installed ‘option’. The ones sold on my new 1972 FJ40 were Warn hubs. If factory installed they would have been Aisin hubs.

Excellent!

I had a 1972 when I was 17 years old. Sure wish I still had it...

Been out doing check runs on the mountain. Everything is operating 100%. Could just about climb a cliff in low range. Only punch out item is to reposition the seatbelt slightly.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.
