The time has finally come! Its time to list my vintage 470 nitro double rifle. I started building my own doubles on shotgun actions a few years ago out of interest in the platform. I also just returned from a Buffalo hunt using my favorite 416 bolt gun and realized that the 400 calibers are all I will likely need. I’ll keep some of the bigger stuff for fun but the time has come for the 470to find another home.
The rifle is a Boxlock Ejector and was a Belgian guild build that was proofed in 1956. You have here a rifle from the second golden age with post war steel barrels in very high condition. The rifle was built by FAUL group or Fabrique Armas Unies de Liege. It is a standard 470 Nitro Express chambering. The rifle has all of the options including ejectors and an articulating front trigger. It weighs 9.6lbs with barrels a shade under 26”. It loads, fires, and regulates very well with the RL15 and H4350 loads I have shot it with. I have been using trophy bonded bear claws, Hornady DGX/DGS, and have some Swift A-frames coming. I get 2100 to over 2200fps with 87-89gr of Reloader 15 and great regulation with Trophy Bonded Bearclaw bullets. I chronographed the banded bearclaws at 2234 average with 89gr of RL15 and they were crossing. I shot these Bearclaw loads off of sticks at 50 yards at a friends range (see picture). The rifle prefers a bit over 2100fps for better regulation. We also shot the Hornady DGX and saw that it would penetrate 32” of treated posts!
The rifle comes with a lifetime supply of reloading components, 150-200 Bearclaws, some Hornady softs and solids, and a box or so of Swift Aframes. Lots of brass. A die set and shell holder.
I have been resisting the urge to install a red dot sight on the quarter rib as I do not want to affect the collector value of this rifle. I figure I better sell it to another before I go through with it. If you are genuinely interested, I will provide many more photos via email. I don’t have any other targets from the rifle but I plan to go shoot some soon.
I am asking for $12,000 with hard case and all loading components. Shipping costs not included. Feel free to ask general questions in this thread. I’m also happy to discuss on the phone so just PM me if you wish a more in-depth discussion.
Thanks,
RC
