I am an affiliate of Mcullum Safaris now " Mike and Helen Angelides" so yes my Work permit and license falls under their auspices. I have a camp set aside as mine, and Hunt my own Clients from there, all logistics are done through Mcullum Safaris. In between my own hunts I do Free-lance hunts for the company as well.

All our logistics are run from Arusha, so yes the Charters as well. There are three Camps on the 2 000 000 acres so we have the ability to coordinate Hunts in such a way that we can share charter costs, as they can get pricey.
If we coordinate, charters should be around $3500 each way

So $7k for round trip charter, will this be split by X number of people/hunters on the charter or is this a per person charge?

The Charters are charged at a per hour rate and vary somewhat. Typically a flight to camp costs $ 7500 for the Plane, Cessna caravan. This fee is shared by the hunters on the flight. So if there are 3 Hunters, it will be $7500 divided by 3. And then the same again for the return flight. I hope this make sense.

Can someone explain to me the absolute insane costs of charter flights in Africa? I mean this with all due respect.

General aviation is expensive everywhere. I paid about $1500 for my portion of for a 500 mile flight in Alaska, six of us in a twin engine piper. Also, about $1,000 for a 200 mile trip in a float plane in the Yukon in a single engine piper, with just me and another hunter. The plane operator basically has to make two round trips, sometimes taking other others out or sometimes deadheading empty with no paying passenger or cargo.

The workhorse plane in Africa is the Cessna Caravan, which is a large, single turbine powered engine. They hold 9-10 passengers. Cost to buy a used one is over $1 million.

Here's some cost info, but it's based on $5/gal fuel. I bet in Africa it's closer to twice that.

    https://blog.wepushtin.com/blog/5-cheapest-turboprops-operate/
    Cessna 208B Grand Caravan

Cessna’s single-engine, single-pilot certified 208B Grand Caravan, their largest single-engine aircraft to date, has been around since 1982. It burns 50 gallons of fuel per hour, which, at $5 per gallon, is $250.00 per hour. Maintenance on a Grand Caravan is estimated to cost $201.64 per hour. Combining fuel and maintenance costs equals $451.64 per hour in direct operating costs. At 200,000 miles, or 989 hours with a cruise speed of 177 knots, that’s $445,671.96 annually.

A Grand Caravan pilot is estimated to make $68,250.00 annually, a hangar is expected cost $28,762.50, insurance is expected to cost $12,285.00, and pilot training is expected to cost $8,580.00, totaling $117,877.50 in fixed annual costs.

    Annual Direct: $446,671.96
    Annual Fixed: $117,877.50
    Annual Total: $564,549.46

I have wondered the same thing, I charter a fair amount of planes in the US, the prices I see talked about in Africa seem high as compared to here.

    for a start
most aircraft we are speaking about here are manufactured in USA, and the parts too
so obviously cheaper to buy there, no import duties etc
fuel is probably half the price in USA as in africa
this would already account for probably about a 30-40% cheaper rate in USA than in Africa

For those that do not want to Burden of a Costly Charter, we also have to South African options. $13 100.00 will get you a 7 day hunt with the trophy fee for one Bull included. You can road transfer to the camp, from OR Tambo intl airport and back again. Commercial flight back is Optional from Polokwane. It is a wild hunt within a fenced area of around 6000 acres of fairly dense vegetation. This is not a easy hunt by any means.

I shot my buffalo on a fenced 8000 acre farm, and as Ernest said it’s not easy. Dense vegetation and the fact our farm bordered Kruger where the lions had broken thru the fence had the buffalo very skittish. I didn’t hunt with Earnest just agreeing with him.

If your hunting the old Chunya open area and the Lukwati gr, why don't you give your clients the choice of picking them up in Mbeya? The Dar to Mbeya flight is usually <$300 round trip. That's like a couple of buff trophy fees they would save.

Wheels, if someone asks we will certainly explore this option. It has been done before.
What it may mean is the following.
Sleep first night in Dar. as opposed to Arusha. Fly to Mbeya next day and sleep that night in Mbeya. Drive to camp around 7 hours. I will need to find a reliable person with a reliable vehicle to do this. Then most likely the same return path, other than sleep in Mbeya that first night back. But I am sure this will reduce the travel cost a lot. It will add a few days to your time away from home.

You shouldn't need to spend the night in Mbeya. You could drive directly to camp if you take an early flight from Dar. Or, if you get in early in Dar, you can fly to Mbeya, spend the night and forgo the night in Dar. Agree that a hunter might be trading two extra days for saving $6k.

Depending on which one of Danny's camps you use, your drive is possibly less than seven hours also.
