@Red Leg, i kind of agree, but.....there is soooooooooo much information to sort thru. you are obviously a man of the world and experience. that said, it is difficult for a regular voter to keep in touch with the news, not counting the barrage of info that comes from all sources. imagine...

    Politics

I generally don't like to comment on political stuff, because many on one side or the other are pretty well entrenched and i am unlikely to be able to change minds no matter how good the facts, but, here goes. trump as a human is just like many of us; plenty of problems and sins to make him a...

    CRF vs Push feed

this is a revival of several old threads, but here goes: my experience with using push feeds is fairly extensive. i had 2 malfunctions from them. one, a blued 416 rem mag in a model 700. at the range, after firing (factory loads) the rifle failed to extract the round. at home i pushed the...

    Question for the reloading experts...

hey scott, if you are NOT out of ammo, it would be worth shooting one or two over a chrono to get the actual speed. would be a good reference point. and yes, 2900 fps does sound pretty fast.

  16. 1dirthawker

    45-70 for dangerous game?

IVW, i agree with most of what you post. my only question is... with a good solid, 458 400 gr bullet put on the buffalo's shoulder or just behind, you don't think it would do the job? i expect it would end up under the hide on the opposite side or a complete pass thru. re: 100 fps and...

    45-70 for dangerous game?

NOT what i said. what i said was: again, a 100 fps difference (in the tropical load, the 450-400 shoots 400 gr @ 2050 fps) or less will likely not be that big of a deal in the real world. so, don't use the 45-70. no harm, no foul.

    45-70 for dangerous game?

I don't know if a brown bear is considered "dangerous game". If it is, then i have some small experience with the 45-70 on dangerous game. i have a 45-70, stainless and laminate stock that i extended the magazine on (they make em like that now) and i can state with full confidence that with a...

thats why I dont like doubles (have one)

as stated before, the first shot was a bit high. the real issue to me was like @redleg said, slow reloading. the client had a tough time getting his gun to cycle, but did pretty good i thought. the PH was pretty slow getting his fresh ammo into his gun. that said, i suspect it is hard to...

    Handgun for wolf protection

a 357 or a 10mm would be plenty to kill/discourage any wolf.(also plenty for black bear, but bigger is better with bears) have it in a good holster that you will have on you at all times. truth is, most people will spend their whole lives without seeing a wolf in the wild, not to mention an...

Wolves Have Been Released in Colorado USA

The basic problem is one that is the same around the world: megafauna AND apex predators typically do not play well with our current structure in the world. as people have multiplied, we take up space that the grizzly bear used to live in in California. the locals killed them off as they...

.458 win mag for North America

IF you are only going to use open sights on this rifle, then you should put very good sights on it. if you are going to scope it, well, then the open sights are backup. still be nice to have good sights on it, but if there is a scope on the gun, you will rarely if ever use the sights.

    Gunwerks Skuhl 375 Ruger

@375Ruger416, my 2 cents. buy the model 70 OR the ruger guide gun, put a 1-6x or 1-8x scope on it, feed it some 300 gr A frames and start wondering where you are going to mount your trophies. if you can put your hands on both rifles, do so. you will like one better than the other. 1/4"...

.458 win mag for North America

@camerl2009, just a little feedback for ya. i am relatively new to the 458 win myself. i did shoot several brown bears, a moose and caribou with my 45-70 with a 350 gr bullet @2150 fps. it did pretty great work. then, got a 458 win thanks to @Badboymelvin staunch defense of the caliber. i...

Eland Cartridges for recoil sensitive shooter?

ivw, i rarely disagree with you, simply because you have a lot more experience with all things hunting than i. that said, (and i am not a FAN of the 30-06) not greater, just different. slightly lower recoil, adequate for lots of stuff, better...nah. a 30-06 with 220's is really hard to beat...

    375 Ruger vs 375 H&H

an interesting thread, i actually paused for a bit to decide whether or not to jump in this pool. so, here goes: -the 375 h&h is a proven cartridge, it is effective over a broad range of distance and big game -the h&h also has a LOT more factory loads available -a worn in h&h is smooth as...

  41. 1dirthawker

Look what AH made me buy...

am i interpreting the target right, the bullets are crossing? the right barrel shots are hitting to the left of the left barrel? if so, slowing down the bullets a bit will get them to shoot closer together AND be correctly oriented to your barrels. just a thought.
