Bob, I'd prefer being thrown in to a pride of lions, have my name carved in a tree and forget about it. Unfortunately, my wife didn't agree with that plan. As far as South Africa, medivac back to the states is still pretty pricey.
Do you have $25,000 to bring your corpse back to the states or are you just going to leave it in the bush? Does your health insurance work in South Africa or anywhere else in Africa. Check the cost of medivac from another country. Penny wise and pound foolish. I always buy insurance. A couple...
One real man
The ruler of an ancient kingdom wanted to disprove the statement that the men of his domain were ruled by their wives. He had all the males in his kingdom brought before him and warned that any man who did not tell the truth would be punished severely.
Then he asked all the men...
Curious as to the viability of a suppressed double rifle. I've seen ported doubles and suppressed double barrel shotguns, as below. Wonder how it would work on the big bores.
Original design was for a 1-11 twist, 24" barrel. As above, shooting the heavy end of the range, 1-10 twist. In another magnum, I've shot the heavies in a 9.5 and a 9, accurate at extended ranges.
The old timers will remember back in the last century, Remington and Winchester would introduce a new cartridge in a tit for tat race of cartridge/caliber supremacy. Goal was sell more rifles and sell more ammo. Hornady and Nosler, former bullet only manufacturers, are just following the same...
I have to disagree on this. Only use a TSA lock if you want your baggage to easily be opened by someone other than you. I use zip ties, takes about the same amount of time to defeat as a TSA lock.
Watches, cars, homes, boats, airplanes, art, guns, fishing rods, phones, TVs.....toasters, whatever floats your boat. The positive side is somebody has a job building, producing, selling and/or maintaining those things (well, maybe not the toaster).

My 2¢, if they chamber, shoot them.
Agree another 4457 and ammo for that rifle would be the easy button. IATA says 5 kilos not including the case. Some airlines say ammo includes the case.
As Bob Nelson posted, barrels can have differences. One with a half or a thousandth of an inch larger groove diameter or different rifling geometry could allow 2900 without being high pressure.
May have missed it in previous posts but IMHO, buy travel/medical/ evacuation insurance. Global Rescue, Ripcord, AIG, etc. sell different products. Some cover everything, others specific items. Check with your travel agent.

Considering many military rifles were double stack, with rapid reloading, either bolt, semi or autoloader, I don't see a disadvantage.
M1 Garand clip was double stack.
For those that have them, you don't know how lucky you are. Possession in my state would make me a felon. They are 100% illegal. Same goes for full auto weapons.
Scott, My visit to CBP for 4457s usually turns in to a review of last year's hunt, , a preview of this year's hunt and a discussion on firearm cartridge choice for plains game and scope selection. I'm there at least a half hour, sometimes more. It probably is different than some facilities.
Complete description including cartridge designation. I also list the attached scope's serial number n the same form. My CPB office won't use the pre printed form. They always want me to fill out theirs in the facility.
