heads up on source of Woodleigh manuals

There is load data for the 475NE in the Woodleigh loading manual. One of the powders is a Vihtavuori powder. Graeme Wright's book also has a few loads for the 475NE, but noting the Woodleigh book hasn't got. I haven't had a chance to really have a good look at the Woodleigh Manual as yet...

    Who reloads.....and why?

As far as reloading books/manuals go, I would recommend you get yourself a few. Mainly to compare load data between them. Have a bit of a read of them and get your head around the subject. When you buy a set of dies ect they come with instructions, just follow them and you'll be right. There...

    Who reloads.....and why?

Well that's a good question. I shot a fair bit growing up, mostly rimfire competition and some hunting, we did have centrefire rifles some of which were we loaded for. I started reloading because I shoot a few oddball rounds that I couldn't easily get factory ammo for. Then latter on I moved...

    Elephant into Australia

Na is looking good to me to, I'm not quite ready to leave Au. But it's getting close. I might be forced to yet, not liking the noises coming out of our government. I don't know a lot about importing cats, but is there anything I can do to help ?

    Pressure signs

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread, I've been away with work. Thanks for all the replies and advice. That pressure measuring gear Grumulkin linked to looks pretty interesting. QL is something I've had my eye on for sometime now.

.416 Bullets: Woodleigh, Swift or North Fork?

Myself I would go with Woodleigh they make a good bullet. But then again they are easy for me to get, thats a big part of why I use them. I have no first hand experience with the Swift or North Fork.

    Pressure signs

As I have already stated I cannot find any manufacturers published data for the round and powder combination. If I could find good data I wouldn't be looking for ways to determine whats safe and whats not. I'm not assuming anything. If I were I'd just keep dumping powder in the case till I...

    Annealing brass and die question

I think the Bench Source machine would work pretty well for what I want. It can handle cases with a rim diameter up to 50bmg (.804") so it should work for the NE rounds as well. http://www.bench-source.com/id81.html

    Annealing brass and die question

Thanks guys, I'm looking at getting an annealing machine because I shoot a fair amount of 308. I'm thinking of seeing if I can get one that does up to say 470ne then I could do them all.

    Annealing brass and die question

I did a search and couldn't find a lot on annealing on here. Are any of you guys annealing your brass in particular the NE rounds ? If so what are you using, machine or hand ? Also what dies are good or are there any dies one should avoid ? I have always had a good run out of Redding and...

Thanks Nicholas, I have Pet Loads on the way looking forward to having a read. I expect it to arrive tomorrow. I have a chronograph already and a set of vernier calipers but I'm finding I have to go out in the sun to read the scale nowadays, must be getting old. I've been thinking of going...

    Pressure signs

The cartridge is the 348Win powder is RL-19 topped with a Woodleigh 250gr bullet. The only info I have been able to find is a few mentions of 60gr loads giving good accuracy, which it does. And some info on www.loaddata.com but using the max loads listed on that site I am only getting 2190fps...

    Shipping bullet to Canada?

Hmm not necessarily. In the case of importing a collection of bullets yeah it's probably going to add a fair chunk to the price. However if you import/export in bulk you can get a good deal. As an kind of example I imported a press from the US into Au there was $580AUD freight added to the...

    Pressure signs

Thank you for your reply ZG47. That is what I'm worried about, by the time I see pressure signs I'd be way over pressure What has been working in my boltguns just doesn't seem like it would be the right approch for levers and doubles ect. I will hunt down a copy of Pet Loads by Ken Waters.

    Pressure signs

I am after a good explanation on identifying signs of pressure particularly through measuring the case head expansion. I have always gone off of bolt opening, primers flow and extractor wipe ect but I think that really only works well on bolt guns ? Can anyone recommend a book or a writeup...

    Shipping bullet to Canada?

I import bullets into Au from the US from time to time. Well I go thru an exporter. You need an export licence/permit. It's not overly hard to do but it takes time and cost a little money.

Bit of reloading for the 348 today. Load is 60gr of RL19 behind a 250gr Woodleigh snfp. However as anyone who has loaded the 348 know I damaged one round. Seems the shoulder creases very esaly. I have a Lee FCD that I use to crimp with. Has anyone recovered brass like the above one ? I've...

    .348 Winchester

Velo I almost bought a Mod 71 in 450 Alaskan a few years ago, it was a beautifully done rifle. But two things stopped me 1. It's another odd ball round I'd need to load for, and I think the 348 does just fine the way it is. To be honest I think the 348win is as powerful a round I'll ever need...

    .348 Winchester

Thanks FWB. I like it a lot. The Mod 71 just seems to fit me real well. I have an eye out for another one but I'm in no hurry to get one. I will have to check out the Hawk Precision line of .348 bullets, especially the 270gr.

Looking For The Best Safari Rifle Case

Whats so special about the Tuffpak 1050TSA ? I am not familiar with them. I have a few Pelican cases and have used them for quite a few years. They don't get looked after very well but they continue to hold up and do their job. I can't recommend them enough. Edited to fix spelling.

    Portable or temporary loading benches

For a temporary loading bench I used a dood on two sawhorses for about two years. It was cheap as chips and worked pretty well. I was renting at the time and didn't know how long I would be sticking around so I didn't want to go making anything to permanent.

    .348 Winchester

Nice battery you've described there Spooksar. Have you had a chance to use the AI version yet ? How useful do you find the 348 round on your side of the world ? I'm guessing with three of them you're quite fond of the round.

    .348 Winchester

Good to hear. Winchester 86 and 95 in 405 no less those are some mighty fine guns. Ikeda how do you find the 33win ? It is a round that sparked my interest some years ago but have yet to get my hands on one.

    .348 Winchester

I am currently thinning out my gun collection because I have more than I can use. The 348 is one that I am keeping for sure. But I have read a few time that you can hunt in Africa with a lever action. Is there some kind of restriction for lever actions ? I know Africa is a big place. I can't...

    Reloading presses ?

OK so I'll just add this so if anybody is looking for info on the subject they can find it. I emailed Forster about the Co-Ax press and they replied saying the case holder will not work with the NE rounds. It's a good press and I like using it but I'll need a bigger one to load NE rounds on.
